My SMP Woes

Post by finite8 »

THIS IS NOT A BUG OR A COMPLAINT.

I thought today was going to be a great day, but sadly this SMP release isn't welcomed by all.

I have 3 other friends who i have been playing SMP with. We rent a server, and all is good. We tried EE, it failed. I said "You wait until BTW is SMP" and they sounded interested. Now that BTW SMP is released, the first thing i said was "omg" followed by "Lets update the server". They however are NOT BTW players. I've never understood people that don't play this mod. They're either boring ducks that refuse to embrace joy in their life, or they are wimps who fear change. Regardless, upon this news, one of them said
It’s a good looking mod, but just makes things more complicated, doesn’t really add any ‘end game’ or anything, which is what we were looking for in a mod.
I find the concept of "end game" a joke in Minecraft, because there isn't really one. I then proceed to explain that you do get weapons and yes its complicated, but if you just wanted stuff handed to you for no effort, you may as well use EE. The later reply is.
Fully automated farms and such don’t get my noodle baking, sorry ;)
Anyone out there willing to take a refugee? Someone shunned from the infidels that would deny themselves the great awesomeness that is BTW?

Sigh, Maybe i can get the other two to outvote this one infidel, but i don't think that will be the case.

I am considering starting a very small private server, Hamachi only of course. You may be able to be invited. PM me for more :) Also, it's cool that we are both Aussie.
All parts should go together without forcing. You must remember that the parts you are reassembling were disassembled by you. Therefore, if you can't get them together again, there must be a reason. By all means, do not use a hammer.

You're not the only one with this sort of problem. I have friends who seldom play the tekkit for their multiplayer, and they're only really interested in the 'game breaking' items and messing around with them rather than the whole thing of working for the payoff. I can understand their viewpoint to a certain extent, they just want to play around and have fun. Although at least they actually like building complex contraptions with *shivers* Red Power.

I think I shall consider some of the servers that people are starting to setup on these forums, the non-anarchy servers that is. I like the concept of building complex contraptions with other people without having people coming around and using a TNT cannon on you just when you've figured out how to do something.

Damn straight! The only problem with being down this end of the world is the horrible latency. i tried one server, but the lag is soo nasty. It's almost impossible to fight without always getting hit unless you spam the attack button. If you start a private server let me know, I'll definitely have a sticky beak.

Yeah. We did EE before and within a few weeks, we all stopped playing because the challenge was gone. Now they're talking like they want to go back to it! Sigh. Some people just don't know what's good for them. It actually makes me wonder why they play minecraft at all. It's not a game of graphics, or combat, or strategy, or Role Play, Or story. It's about collecting resources and building stuff. Makes me wonder.

I have a similar tale of woe on my server. I have a small (but perfectly formed) server running Bukkit. My friends/players (number around 35.. with perhaps 15 max on at any one time) all were intriqued about my BTW SSP lets plays and I mentioned waaaaaaay back that "perhaps a time will come when BTW is SMP compatible" and they were pretty excited.

spin the clock forward and here we are and none of them are interested. I am "interested" but also do not want to open my server up to the potential of "Better than Griefing" XD. At the moment my Bukkit server uses the Usual Suspects, Worldguard, Logblock, LWC, PermissionsEX etc etc etc.

I could have a strict whitelist only membership criteria which, to be honest, I would probably only have a BTW SMP for myself and perhaps 3 or 4 of my closest "playmates" XD hehe

I do want to play around with this and think it's a cool new feature.

one of my players actually suggested that it needs a Tekkit style launcher !! like patching a copy of the jar file is that difficult?! *shakes head in despair* I told him that would be unlikely to be any time soon

You are not alone! I have been posting on a private Facebook group a friend manages his server on since btw came out for 1.3.2. Seemed like people were interested and I launched the server yesterday and the first question I was asked was, "why not tekkit?"

I know that feel bro. I'll have to try and convince the people I was playing Tekkit with to give BTW a try but I get the feeling that they like the easiness of Tekkit. I was playing Tekkit myself until I decided to check out that mod I seen ages ago and was always planning on trying , BTW of course and I haven't looked back since. Although I do want to check out Forestry with BC when that's updated.

I think tekkit would be twice as good if it weren't for EE but the main problem is that the mods aren't integrated at all properly so some things are made redundant and on a whole it's just a mess no solid theme to it, it just doesn't feel right.

Most of the people I play with love the tech mods.. so we built our servers custom. A few want to play btw or learn but don't want to restart.. so I decided to make a btw server. I'm beta testing now and it will be a white list server. If your interested pm me.

Cell phone posting is a pain

Yeah I have got trouble getting my friend to come join me on a server.
His problem is however, his computer has died, he has no internet and he is a hobo who cannot afford to fix either problem.
So I have a server set up empty, whilst I play on Lifewaters server.
You aussies, would NZ be considered too far away for a server?

I wasn't going to advert this, but I'm going to be running a BTW server this weekend (just on weekends right now, but starting next month it may be on more). It's a small server, so we only have 2-3 slots, but PM me if any of you are interested. Just wanted to help out anyone here who can't get an SMP server. :)

Geographically we're in the central US. It is NOT an anarchy server, if anything it's a socialist server, as in we cooperate. Of course, anyone who joins is free to go off and start their own base and do their own thing as long as they don't grief.

I'll send the server address on Friday to anyone who messages - won't actually know it until the server is started as it changes every week.

Try pinging mcserver.com.au (Aussie MC server) and see what latency you get. If that is good, then Aus to NZ should be fine.

I get <50 from work so home it will be better.
If you guys are interested, and if the server is going to be somewhat exclusive, I will be keen to join.
I got griefed back to punching wood 3 times on Lifewaters server.
As I mentioned before I do have my own server however due to the amount of entities BTW tend to use in a world I am unsure how it would run with more than ~3players worth of entities. (I heard that Lifewater's considerable CPU was pushing 100% at times)
