Hopper fires!

Ok having spent hours making an automated tan leather factory I cannot work out how to stop the hopper on top of the cauldron at the very bottom from catching on fire, Is there anything obvious Im missing?

Ive tried heating it with hibatchi and netherrack with no luck :(

Have the water going all over the hopper?? like on top?

The hopper on top of the cauldron sounds unnecessary, if any item falls onto the top of the cauldron it automatically goes into its inventory. Hope this helps.

I ran into this on my kiln. The only 2 solutions are either water constantly touching the hopper to keep it from catching fire or to use a couldron or crucible instead. I ended up doing the latter.

Or you can be cheap and put wood/stone siding on the sides of the hopper. If you don't have water above it, put a sign there.

Fire prevention in minecraft is easy.

I may be missing something, but doesn't the caldron pick up items that fall on top of it?
