Actually they're kinda pretty- Looks like the nether will get turned in strip mine.
Phantom screams echo through the ruined facility
A horrible silence builds an eerie tranquility
The souls of many innocent fill the air
The hope they all died with scattered down there

...huh? Here I thought they were done with the 1.4.x series.

I just hope it's a pre-quartz build. Give them a chance to nerf the hell out of it's availability...

Storm, the changes we've been seeing since the new year are for 1.5, not 1.4.7. 1.4.7 is a bugfix patch that's been sitting unchanged for about a week and a half.

List of fixes:
•Fixed joining a server, and leaving it, then trying to connect to any server crashing the game under certain conditions
•Fixed bold text taking up lots of space sometimes
•Fixed the server crashing when an arrow shot from a dispenser hits a mob/player with Thorns enchant on their armor
•Fixed a multiplayer crash when using fireworks without a fireworks star
•Fixed long timeout when checking SRV records

They never are.

I'm not in the mood to do a version update today, but I'll get to it at some point.

None of this stuff is super-critical, except maybe the third & fourth one. I wonder if the Mojang crew need a good "defensive coding" primer. While peppering null checks all over the place is sort of silly, making an assumption that yes Virginia, there is a chance this value could be null is just good sense.

As for my servers, they all have a wrapper around them so that if they do crash they're propped back up... to the point where I've upgraded BWR versions by copying the new jar in place and typing /stop.

Hopefully this won't take you too long, FC.
There's only one V in my name, thanks.

<TaterBoy> I figured out why there's so much lag. We have too much iron.

Those bugfixes are barely worth a 1.4.6.1

So basically, they give a few hundred or so modders the chore of updating for just this? No nice extra package, no proper stuff?

Seems as a tie-loose-ends version before the 1.5 as this will include quite more changes code-wise (making redstone more stable will make a whole lot of changes in code). Or at least that is what it seems to me.

No problem FC, it was just to know if i had to force the upgrade. I don't really find those changes that critical, actually none of them is even slightly critical in a SSP world.

I spent a good hour or so today playing with hoppers to see if I could automate a brewing system. It was fun, and actually required BTW level shenanigans. It really was fun.

I suppose it would still be fun if I had done it tomorrow on this new snapshot, but it would have only been fun for 10 mins. Damn you mojang.

  • Textures for blocks and items now have individual image files: I found quite extrange the previous way, this makes more sense and will make texture packs easier to install
  • Improved death messages: WOW, must have taken them so much time coding
  • Improved naming (using the anvil) of containers and mob eggs: ^^ apply the above, these are things that shouldn't need a snapshot to be changed, should be there from the start
  • Trapped chests now give off the redstone signal through walls: they are useless and this doesn't make the difference. now you have to break two more blocks before getting their stuff in anarchy ...
  • Improved hoppers and made them controllable by redstone: we all saw the redstone feature coming and stone recipe was just stupid
  • Updated language files, language files can now be updated via the background downloader (no need for a new Minecraft release): useful at least but not that great
So more than a new snapshot, a we-nedt-to-desing-well-some-things-that-were-so-bad-designed. The only real change is the texture one.

So, Trapped Chests can now MAGICALLY send their signal through a wall. Is it me, or are they adjusting the Redstone mechanics to suit a singular purpose of making a hidden trap?

I'm not impressed.

They may have realized it was the one real advantage the trapped chest might offer over the comparator on a regular chest.

Also, the trapped chest is visually different to begin with, so they don't seem to be going for hidden traps. The visual differences are subtle, but of course making it look like a big pink present is a simple custom texture change which I'm pretty sure most PvP players will rapidly make.

Anyways, I don't know what the fuck they're doing with the whole trapped chest thing, but it looks to me that they're trying to patch functionality onto the design perhaps with the realization that the comparator made them irrelevant, instead of just ripping them out and calling it a day.

Not sure if it's intentional, but trap chests allow for extremely effecient storage rooms: the trap and normal chests can be placed next to each other. You can effectively have a wall of chests.
