Re: Vanilla Minecraft Potion Logic
As far as I'm aware, Mojang went for the brewing stand option instead of the cauldr *ahm* cistern - as the latter would need a block/liquid ID for each ingredient combination, as well as the item ID's used by the former. -It may work if the cistern was a tile entity, and contained a acted as a small...

Re: This is why I can't have nice things...
I see. Abusing the HC spawn mechanic to get a better area kinda feels like cheating. Give it a good shot first- there may be an open ravine in the ocean, if you can find some abandoned mines then you'll be away. (you may even luck out and find a compass in the loot chests- or more likely go down val...

Re: Place your bets : rampant speculation on the new feature
Maybe I'm off on the wrong tangent- but I haven't seen food poisoning from eating rotten flesh/fouled food.
Yeah your hunger bar drains a little faster, but the effects don't stack with each iteration, and certainly no crippling weakness/poison/nausea from putting something that vile in one's mouth.

Re: Fighting the Wither without fighting the Wither
Correct me if I wrong- but since the wither is an undead monster; splash healing potions should work for the first half of the battle? I was thinking a tall[ish] room with ceiling mounted block dispensers and a sizable stockpile of potions. I guess in combination with Ribky's endermen tecnique to f...

Re: Are Endermen supposed to aggro through walls?
Quite a few times (Both vMC and BTW) I've seen endermen walking around in an aggro'd state (mouth open, shaking)
May be a vanilla bug when endermen take environmental damage.

Re: Mob trap science: how big should I go?
It depends on how you're doing for materials; Even a small grinder can be very resource intensive depending on build style/mechanism. (You'll almost certainly want a processing unless you want a massive cobblestone box right outside your house) Personally I'd start off small, and gradually build mor...

I agree with Havoc, building a full sized temple/statue will take a lot of effort- so best of luck to you.
(looks awesome so far)

It would make a lot more sense if animals were scared of [moving] minecarts. Arrgh!!! big noisy thing coming at me! I'm outta here! Looking through the change list, I think burning mobs will now set the environment on fire. Though it means a forest fire every morning I kinda like this idea. You cert...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Here is one thing from this update that I like. Comparators can now be used with jukeboxes. Output signal strength relates to disk number. As far as survival gameplay and general logic goes- this feature makes little sense. However, it's a very useful tool for map builders. Anyone remember that Her...

As saws take a short time to cut wood, a horizontal row of powered saws, with a row of block dispensers placing wood. As each dispenser has a short delay, a well timed sprint will allow you to run across the wood before it's cut. -Likewise a similar mechanism can be achieved with a floor of hibachi....

For moving mobs long distance? 1) Rail track through the nether +Easiest method once set up +Re-usable -Can be dangerous to build -Can be dangerous to use 2) Rail track in overworld +Re-usable +Safer than the nether -Uses 8x the resources -Can tedious to build/dig tunnel/bridge of that length. 3) Wh...

The water mechanic update has been a long time coming. I spend too much time fixing it manually. -Though with downward water sources being created, there's less downflow- so it may mess up some drowning trap/grinder designs. If the dropper can move items sideways, it may hopefully the end of hopper-...

Re: Light it up? Or blow it to hell?
As someone who has similar problems, Using the blocking off rule in addition to left/right hand torches is probably the best way to go; Place torches on the left. At a cave branch, take the immediate left fork. If you hit a dead end, back track to the last fork and wall off that route. Take the next...

Too be honest, I can only see one real use for the hopper;

Re: Nether vs Overworld Base
I would love to see Nether biomes. I would love to see more than just endless featureless red. In fact, i once contemplated just moving a load of dirt, grass, and blue whool to the Nether to make my own little overworld bubble... I think nether forts act as a pseudo-biome, blazes/skeletons can only...
