Music Appreciation

Post by FlowerChild »

Just discovered these guys (thanks to Hugh Laurrie's new show "Chance", which is also quite good):

Really digging it as it's unlike anything I've heard before, and I'm also really liking some of the Native American rage that's being expressed in a number of their tunes.

Although much older, the other worldliness of it kinda reminds me of when I discovered Fever Ray awhile back:

Or this little gem from Skrillex / Ragga Twins:

I'm not huge on Skrillex, but that one grabbed me.

Anyone else got some new music they love to share? Being increasingly old and crusty, I'm not really clubbing all that much anymore, so I'm realizing my musical tastes are becoming increasingly dated :)

I've had Spotify premium for the last couple of years and it's been amazing for keeping up with the latest music. The playlists cater for just about every music genre and it generates a weekly playlist that adds new tracks based on your listening habits.

Check out the Proximity channel on YouTube too: https://www.youtube.com/user/PandoraMuslc Good for keeping up with a lot of the latest dance tracks. (They have a Spotify playlist too) It's highly listenable, and this is coming from someone who's never traditionally been into EDM.

Zedd's been one of the biggest artists over the last couple of years that I've really gotten into:

I'm a bit outdated on my clubbing too, but those songs kinda remind me of Photek in a sense.

In memoriam..

The Alexandrov Ensemble, also known as the Red Army Choir, was decimated in a plane crash and has lost most of it's members, in a year that has claimed most the best and brightest left in the music world already.

One of my all time favourite folk tunes of all time:

Years ago FC presented me with Dead Can Dance's The Serpents Egg. i've listened to that disk every time i've had a test since then.

I really hope this weird blues/samba hybrid helps someone focus for 15 seconds.

DCD has some really powerful songs. I'm glad you managed to share that too. Music is great, im always up to finding out what other people are into and sometimes some songs stick.

For some reason I'm really liking bagpipes lately. Not sure why but the fast playing combined with this techno/rock styling just sounds so good.

Oh! I forgot about this. I believe this became my new favorite song when I came across it maybe a year ago. Old tune, different version I had never heard:

I recently discovered that Rage Against The Machine (probably among my top 3 favorite bands along with Tool and CCR) had a whole last album that I never even knew about. I think it's all cover songs of other bands, but I've been really rocking out to a few of them, with these being my favorites:

Cypress Hill cover:

Bob Dylan cover (you wouldn't expect that):

Volume 10 cover (never heard of them before this):

Always awesome when you discover an unknown cache of some of your favorite music.

That was he one that I first got hooked on, as I used to really like Cypress Hill too. The other two started growing on me though after listening to the whole thing couple of times, especially Pistol Grip Pump.

I think I'm hearing Rage with different ears now too. Like I never used to pay this song (different album) much attention, but really love it now:

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Rusty Cage, an independent musician.

There's a bit of everything, from rock to children music parody. But everything has depressing and grim undertones.

Nothing new here. Some "low-effort" cinematic/dramatic "ambient?" "better than wolves themed" "music appreciation". Figured I'd hide in this topic for as long as possible to conceal my identity from NormalStan or until "FC" deems this "content" unworthy for this specific "forum" or perhaps unworthy in general "?"

That's actually pretty awesome, and what a ridiculous level of detail to matching the original video.
