Allocating enough memory for minecraft

Post by Fret »

Hello,

Today my game just keeps crashing saying there isn't enough memory allocated. This wasn't a problem in the past. Using a texture pack or not, does not seem to make any difference. The crashes happen very fast after a few minutes. I updated java but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Here is a crash report:

Minecraft exited with code 1.
Minecraft has crashed!
I tried allocating more memory. First I allocated more memory to java. Up to 4 GB! But to no avail. I play BTW using MultiMC, it has an option to allocate more memory as well, but when I change the settings here for more memory the game won't even start:

It is possible you've hit on a vanilla bug a few other people have had, where an entity (like an animal or mob) has somehow ended up with many (hundreds of) duplicates. Can you open your map file with MCedit and check to see if there are a bunch of entities in one spot?

I had the same problem once where it crashed and said I didn't have enough memory then crashed againwhen I added more memory through mc patcher. It turned out I needed to downgrade my java but that was a while ago so I don't remember the right version.

So the problem solved itself in a magical way o.O But thanks anyways guys, much appreciated. If it ever happens again I'll try these solutions.

Update Re: Allocating enough memory for minecraft

Post by Fret »

So I figured it out. Java has some issues with windows 8.1 (which is my OS) and internet browsers. It will only run 32-bit java in internet browser. So when you download java with windows 8 it automatically gives you java 32-bit. And java 32-bit only allows you to allocate up to 1536mb of ram. Thanks to a helpful youtube video by an 8 year old vanilla minecraft player I now have finally succeeded in getting 64-bit java. And 64-bit does allow me to allocate more.

Thanks for the help anyways guys. But problem solved thanks to (probably) a wolfaboo xD

Um, Fret, are you sure that calling names the guy that helped you solely because of his age is the right thing to do?

Well it was an actual eight year, so not really. Was just poking fun at myself for not being able to fix the issue, while a child could :) so no name calling here. Except for the wolfaboo part, that's an assumption.
