Pumpkins and Mobs.

So I very just recently ran into this issue in my newest world with Zombies and skeletons somehow finding a way to get my planted pumpkins on their heads. The pumpkins aren't dropping any way that I can tell, the plants are still whole in the morning with the area fairly well lit up. I can't tell how they're getting them to drop and well mobs with pumpkin heads don't burn in the daylight.
