Darkness in the Nether

I was running through the Nether quite earlier than I probably should have and was attacked by a ghast. Desperate, out of torches and near death I walled myself in. I was pretty surprised to see that the gloom did not take hold. I sort of felt the need to punch a whole in the wall just to let light in as I love that aspect of BtW.

Knowing how thoroughly you think things through, there is a very good chance you're already aware of this.
