The little things...

Post by FlowerChild »

Wasn't sure where to post this in the existing threads, so the thought occurred to me to start up a new one in case anyone else had these kinds of little moments they wanted to share:

I get a kick out of it every time I accidentally smack a chicken with an egg and a whole bunch of them goes scurrying around in panic within my chicken coup. Gives me a chuckle every time :)

that moment when you see a pumpkin in the distance after a hardcore spawn and think, "MY SALVATION!"
-I stopped playing Minecraft a long time ago; BTW is its own game to me

-even after these forums are gone, as long as I have the files, I will continue to play Better than Wolves

I've actually found that the running away issue makes it easier for me to throw two stacks of wheat into my still-manual cow farm, then when they're all in love mode I smack them around a little bit to mix them up and get them breeding faster. Then I can hit them again and the babies seem to bunch up against the far wall because they're smaller so I can more easily cull from adults by just swinging like a maniac at the other end.

The idea of speeding up breeding by terrifying all the animals appealed to me for some reason.

iv always got a chuckle out of the fact that no matter what video i see or no matter how long someone has had there base (even now with recent changes to spawn mechanics, altho perhaps not as much as before) there is almost ALWAYS some sheep, cow or chicken walking around aimlessly in the background somewhere. occasionaly walking up to the player just to stare at them intently, then continue on their dandy way.

Every time I see the splash screen that says "I wasn't wearing pants when I wrote this." I just start laughing.

I freaking love the sound wood makes when you walk on it. It's like butter in my earholes.

I love when I find an area that looks like it's my base, only to find out it's a new area. It's a quick succession of, "Oooh! Aww... Oh!" Especially when the new area has an awesome layout of various resources or just looks scenic. I don't mind dying because I love the exploration factor of the game, so it gives me a reason to get out there and get my bearings. I always try to stash my belongings before going exploring, so I rarely lose anything of note. Punching trees kinda sucks, so I'm looking forward to the point where I can explore with my tools without it being a hit or miss endeavor. I'm sorely tempted to try it with larger biomes, though.

I like how BTW makes you build components for different items and blocks. Like how iron doors and pistons now require redstone latches, which in themselves have to be made from a combination of gold nuggets and redstone dust...It's still called redstone dust, right?

Or how some things require you to combine things to make different parts via cauldrons, crucibles, millstones, mouldings or require you to use mouldings of wood made from putting wooden planks in front of a saw.

I'm not sure if you would call it a little thing, but for some reason, I just like the feeling of making things in stages. I don't know how to put it, other than it adds a feeling of an extra layer of depth to some things instead of just slapping raw materials together on a grid to make something refined.

Lol...yes :)

I'm not that bad am I? Sheesh...change "sticks" to "shafts" to try to infer some internal logic as to why sticks in general aren't good enough for tool use and everyone thinks you're renaming everything :)

I love the fact that in the day and a half that my small server has been set up (for 2 BTW noobs and I), the two of them have died at least 40 times between them and I haven't died at all. I am not trying to brag, merely state the fact that they cannot track their hunger, avoid stone axe combat with multiple mobs, stop fucking sprinting, stop fucking jumping, keep their wolves fed, not feed their wolves rotten flesh, remember to close doors, hide indoors at night, keep at least 3 cobble, keep at least 2 sticks or use their coal for torches.

Seriously, I have never before taken so much enjoyment from the misfortune of others! Thank you FlowerChild, without you and your mod, my friends would still be thinking that they are awesome with their Gravi-Chestplates..

I have really put them in their place and I have only you to thank for it!

Lol. I think one of those habits I still have. I sometimes still get the illusion that I can do things at night and take on mobs if I'm just careful, skilled and alert enough. Partially because there's still so much I want to do at night. Especially if my character gets hungry.

Another little thing I like is how now, you can feed wolves just by dropping food, and the fact that they crap now. Also, how they sometimes fight amongst each other, and howl at night.

Ironically enough, BTW has made me like wolves more than cats and ocelots due to them now feeling more dynamic and wolf-like, as well as having more uses now. I never needed assistance in fighting mobs in vMC.

In vMC, wolves just sort of feel like organic attack drones that can be hired via dog bones and repaired via meat, and they would only attack you if you attack them first, but they died so easily, and the stakes were so low, they didn't feel like they were worth it, unlike cats, which could scare away creepers, and AT LEAST acted a bit cat-like by sitting on things and running circles around some rooms, as well as randomly killing chickens nearby. Now wolves can either be very useful to survival, or spell the end of your survival, and are unpredictable at times!

Which reminds me:

Anyone notice how oysters explain why creepers are afraid of cats?

Wait a minute, do cats still scare them off when they've been de-oystered?

An actual conversation between me and a friend on my server (after he'd been complaining about continually dying and I traveled to his base to try to help):

Me: "Um...why is there a hole in your roof that zombies can drop into? Block it up! Always keep holes into your house blocked up until you have an iron door."
Him: "Look, when you're running back to base with a mob of monsters chasing you, you don't have time to break blocks."
Me: "Well, you shouldn't be running from mobs of monsters. Just be careful and you shouldn't ever have to fight or escape."
Him: "Hey man, it doesn't matter how careful you are. It happens all the time."

*minutes later*
Me: "Why are you going outside?! It's the middle of the night!"
Him: "But I need wood!"

*facepalm*

No, I didn't notice before! Wait, aren't oysters living animals and not part of an animal?

So, what gives? Are creepers and creeper oysters two animals that live in a sort of symbiotic relationship, or are the oysters...something else?

No, they aren't actual animals. Google 'Rocky Mountain Oysters' and you will find your answer.

:O Ew. I thought that's what they were. And I even ATE some creeper oysters out of curiosity one time! I was weirded out by animals in BDSM gear, but this is FAR! No wonder they poisoned me.

I guess you could say that the creeper's balls are...

Something else I just realized I love is the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment I get when I successfully find an underground cave, spawner, or mineshaft by ear. I have like 3 mineshafts, two spawners, and a megacave to explore now. Digging that last block and seeing pitch black and mob feet is amazing.

Yeah, I love that too.. I gets easier with time too. Now that I lit most of my caves, every little dark spot is getting spawns, and very often I'm wondering and hearing mobs from a cave that would be inaccessible otherwise
