With pillaring gone, a new focus on caving, and darker stones the deeper we go, I'm finding myself wishing in game for a way to illuminate ceilings or other corners of ravines or crevices at a distance to check for more hidden cave branches or ores hiding in the black ceiling.
Of course the illumination could last a second or less, just long enough to get a glimpse to see if creating a staircase up to ceilings is worth the effort.

Yeah...no. Search the forums. Mobile illumination has been suggested many times, and this is just a variation on that idea.
