Didn't put this in off-topic because it has been directed specifically at the BTW community.

It's a doubly insulting term, really. Because it means not only that we are servile, but that we are servile not out of respect or anything else, but because we think false flattery will be self serving. That's what sycophant means. A servile selfish flatterer. It's root meaning comes from "slanderer".

Even though the people who say we're sycophants probably have no idea what the word means, they still mean it in some insulting way.

So, I'd just like to state for the record here, for those people:

Go fuck a chainsaw.
