Noir's Designs (CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)

Post by BlackCat »

NOTICE: Many of these designs may be out of date, broken, or even pointless. I am no longer going to be updating any of the designs as of the 1.5 update.

If you happen to catch me in the IRC, feel free to ask about how you might fix one of these, and I'll do my best to offer some advice, but I'm not going to make any further changes to the thread.

I offer my apologies to anyone who actively followed the thread, and for any damage that may have been done to worlds that used any designs that have been broken.

Concepts/Components
Block Deleters
Show
These are used in situations where you need to completely get rid of a block.Block deleters can be made using Hibachis for flammable blocks, or with two block dispensers for any type of block.

Most common uses
- Hibachi design for tree farms
- Block dispenser design for smoothstone farm

Block Dispenser
Image
Any blocks placed below the block dispensers will be deleted.
Image
Pulse where the lever is to delete blocks infront of the right most block dispensers.

Hibachi
Image
Any flammable blocks placed infront of the sticky piston will be deleted.
This takes advantage of the deleter functionality of hibachis (Hibachis will delete any flammable block that is placed on top of them)
Block Replacers
Show
These are used for replacing blocks. There are two types of block replacers, one using Buddy blocks for detection and one using detector blocks for detection.

Most common uses
- Urn replacers for soul bottlers
- Other stuff I can't think of right now

Detector Block

Buddy Block
Image
One redstone torch and one block go in the bottom block dispenser
Block Eaters
Show
These are used to suck up blocks. Credit goes to six for helping me a great deal with these.

Most common uses
- Sugarcane/pumpkin/melon farming
- Cobblestone/stone generators
- Ice Farming :)

Redstone dust goes inside top block dispenser.
Block Updater Replacers
Show
These are used to replace an updatable block with another block, e.g. cobble stone updates to mossy cobble or dirt updates to mycelium etc. These are generally made with a 3 block dispenser system using a default powered block dispenser, a default unpowered block dispenser, and a third block dispenser for feedback loop prevention.

Most common uses
- Mycelium/Grass block farming
- (Extremely slow) Mossy cobblestone farming
- Cracked/Mossy brick farming

Tileable 1 Wide

Tree Farms
Block Dispenser
Show
Block dispenser based tree farms are most commonly used to harvest oak and blood wood trees. The reason for this is two fold, first being that both oak and bloodwood will grow "branches" and as a result are near impossible to harvest via sand pushers, and in addition their saplings are so plentiful that it's not unlikely for you to find yourself in a situation where you are using them for furnace fuel just to rid yourself of the doublechests you have full of them. (I'm not being oddly specific, I swear!)

It is also helpful to note that this design is infinitely tileable via the use of repeaters to extend signal on the vertical, so have fun making 60 block dispenser blood wood farms :)

Resources Needed
-Slabs (variable)
-Redstone dust (variable)
-Repeaters (variable)
-Block Dispensers (variable)
-Buddy block x1

Sand pusher tree farms are used for uninterrupted growth tree farms, they are some of the hardest builds to test and get working. That said, I have several versions of this, and It's still an ongoing project.

I'm not going to bother with trying to explain all that goes on with this build so I'll provide a world download instead.

Chickens
Egg Cracker
Show
This design is intended for those who would rather have a way to use looting on their chickens, and not have them going into an auto kill system. That said, this setup is fairly simple. The purpose of the slab + stickypiston at the bottom is to stop those scumbag chickens from suffocating themselves inside of walls, as well as to push the raw eggs onto whatever collection system you so desire.
Lever will turn it on and off by keeping the piston powered on and stopping the feedback loop timer.

I've not done it yet but I suspect it would be fairly simple (and extremely sexy) to have this hooked up to the egg farm, so you can do that if you so desire.

Resources Needed
- vMC Dispenser x1
- Piston x1
- Sticky Piston x1
- Trapdoor x1
- Lever x1
- Buddy block x1
- Eggs x n >6.02*10^23

Image
Egg Farm
Show
Basically what happens in this is that whenever a chicken lays an egg it will set off the detector block which will then feed the chicken another seed automatically, as a result you can stack an infinite amount of chickens in one unit. Seeds go in the vMC dispenser, both of the hoppers should be powered (trust me you'll want a double chest for the eggs if you don't hook this up to an auto cracker) and a button on the detector is advisable incase you run out of seeds and need to restart the device. In addition you absolutely need a halfslab and a block above where the seeds get dispensed or else the design is likely not to work properly

Another important thing to note if you are going to try using more than one chicken, eventually they will all starve except for 1, so it's probably for the best that you not use multiple chickens per unit.

Resources Needed
- Detector block x1
- vMC Dispenser x1
- Seeds (Variable)
- Mechanical Power
- Hopper x2

Cocoa Bean Farm
Cocoa Bean Farm v1
Show
Image
Image
This cocoa bean farm works by using a buddy block to detect several updates, the placing of the cocoa, the 2 updates from growth stages, and the harvesting of the cocoa.

Sticky pistons will prevent the cocoa from getting stuck and harvest it when it finishes growing, and block dispensers will place more.
Resources needed
- Cocoa Beans (variable)
- Repeater x3
- Dust x6
- Torch x2
- Waterflow/hopper (variable)
- Buddy block x1
- Block dispenser x1
- Sticky piston x2
Wool Farm
Wool Farm
Show
This design takes advantage of the interactions between block dispensers and sheep, wherein you can "suck up" the wool from sheep using said block dispensers. The buddy block will detect the spread of grass as well as when the sheep eat it. Sheep will not suffocate as a result of their hitbox being slightly larger than 1 block high, so don't worry about that. In addition, it is possible to stack multiple sheep in each module, though it would be advisable to only stack multiples of one color.

Using multiple grass blocks/grass planters will allow for faster grass spreading; however, this is not necessary as long as you cover up the grass spread block as seen in the image.

The siding seen in the picture is placed to prevent the sheep from moving out of range of the block dispenser, it is necessary.
Resources needed
- Buddyblock x1
- Grass or Grass planters (variable)
- Block Dispenser x1
- Siding/Moulding x1

Wheat Farms
Wheat Module (With Bonemeal 1 Wide)
Show
Image
Bonemeal on top, see original wheat module for full description
Wheat Module
Show
Image

This is basically a wheat farm module that can be used for semi-automatic wheat farming, seeds need to be manually replaced. Because of the way that block dispensers receive power it is possible to use these for a no waste wheat farm, allowing it to be somewhat self sustaining.

Each module is tillable up to every other block. It will automatically harvest and replant.
Wheat Farm Module (old)

Resources Needed

Module by Husbag3
Show
Image
Resources needed
- All seen in picture
- In top block dispenser: 7 Blocks 1 Redstone dust 1 Block (in that order)
- In bottom block dispenser Carrots/Potatoes

This carrot/potato farm works off of a growth sensor buddy block, each growth stage, harvest, and replant, will cause an update, the block dispenser will "count" these updates and send a signal to harvest the product when it is fully grown.

Cobblestone/Smoothstone Generators
Cobble Generator (Pulse limiter)

This design uses a pulse limiter (sticky piston + rising edge) and a 3 tick repeater to take advantage of a reliable method of cobblestone generation.
Stone & Obsidian generators can be found in the videos section

Pottery
Pottery Maker
Show
Not a whole lot to say here that I haven't already talked to death. You must use a sticky piston, 1 redstone torch, and every 2 non solids will add another rotation or level of pottery, block dispenser in front places clay.
Just to be clear 2 non solids = crucible, 4 non solids = Planters, etc. I've not bothered testing this for absolute tilability, though it will work with 1 block between each module (which considering the mechanical power requirement is probably for the best).
Image
Kiln
Minimalistic
Show
Image
This autokiln design works by using a block dispenser as a timer and harvester, and the dispenser must be timed using the same timer as the bellows.

Better With Renewables
-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This section is entirely dedicated to designs for various BWR additions, BWR videos will still be in the videos section.
Glowdust Synth
Show
Image
Image

Explanation of this renewable: Glowstone dust can be renewed by focusing sun light on pulsing redstone via the use of a lens, this reaction will cause a cooking effect that fools nearby buddy blocks (grrrr) thereby rendering buddy based replacements for redstone near impossible. This reaction will also require a cooldown time, block dispensers that have placed redstone under a "synth" will have a 5 second period where no glowdust can be made.

Explanation of my design: By having two clocks running into the block dispenser I was able to set up a system where the dispenser could place redstone dust but not suck it back up as a result of the speed at which the redstone was pulsing being too fast for the block dispenser to register. This timer is then connected to a repeater on a longer delay than the timer itself, using this as a detection system, when the redstone dust cooks and turns into glowstone dust it will then set off the sticky piston, pushing the dust into the hopper and then allowing for the next redstone dust to be placed.

Cool builds and it looks like you have a talent with Redstone integrated with btw!

One thing I noticed, in your tree farm dispenser build, I didn't realize a red stone signal would propagate up a chain of unconnected half slabs. That really looks like an exploit. Of course its up to you if that bothers you, but for me at least its the kind of thing I try to avoid. Very interesting and useful usage of it though!

That's VMC redstone stuff, it's been around for a while, they added it as functionality rather than removing it in one of the updates, it's not really an exploit. The same thing can be done with glow stone because it can receive signal but not be powered (hope I explained that well) and thanks!

Of course! That's why I made this thread, I'd be delighted.

Edit: Just a little update, I'm probably going to start a changelog in the original post once I get a few more designs that I feel are presentable.

If anyone wants me to I might work on the speedier soul bottler, I've found a few tricks since then that might help.
