Companion Cart add-on (unreleased, discussion thread)

Post by RaustBlackDragon »

So yeah, I've kinda been living in fear that one day Companion Cubes will actually be integrated into the BTW tech tree and I'll actually have to make one. This is my plan for such an eventuality: Companion Carts.

Yes, the ability to put companion cubes in minecarts and wheel them around.

"For the on-the-go minecrafter, the companion cart has HYPER-advanced AI and excellent training, allowing it to follow you around exactly how you want it to, without deviation!"

It sounds deliciously twisted, and you're probably wondering why I, the forum's token wolfaboo of all people, would be expressing interest in making it.

Well as I said, I'm scared that companion cubes might actually be implemented into the tech tree one day, and I want a backup plan. The idea is that if I do wind up being forced to condemn a wolf to cubedom, I can at least let it get outside for some fresh air, maybe build it a nice roller coaster to ride on whenever I'm not using it :)

This should be reasonably easy to make, and once I get the time to sit down in my coding environment, I plan on making it, so I thought I'd give people the heads up about it :)

I say again: wolfaboo. I'm curious, though: are there any practical uses for my C^3(tm)? Or is this just aesthetic?

Aesthetic. Depending on what (if any) function Companion Cubes get later, I might be able to apply it to Companion Carts as well though.

Oh, and I'm not entirely sure because it would be reset whenever you place them back down, but you might be able to name them.

lol. Ok. I would probably do this just for the morbidity of it all.

First name: C3PO. Companion Cube Cart Pulled Onward.

Wouldn't R2D2 be more appropriate to the situation?

And I must admit, this idea definitely gave me a chuckle.

Oh, and if I can make a suggestion: please make it emit hearts when pushed. I suspect it would really like that.

R2D2 has tons of utility, man: little saws and screwdrivers and electronic lockpicks, etc. C3PO is useless. :D

EDIT: Except for talking to... Companion Cube for the exceptionally lonely...

Yes...but R2D2 is on wheels, and has become slang for referring to the disabled on wheels :)

Actually, Raust, do you mind if I grab this idea and integrate it into the mod? With the work I'm doing on the Hopper Cart, doing something like this would be extremely easy for me to tag on to the code, it doesn't consume a blockID, it totally suits the running gag of the Companion Cube in BTW, and it's been far too long since our little friend has had an upgrade :)

It really is a perfect idea for putting in BTW. Low dev cost and all.

I love this. And Raust, you mentioned this under the worst suggestions thread too? C'mon man, this is awesome.

Well it seemed like a horrible idea to SUGGEST, and I wasn't sure if I was still on suggestion probation at any rate, so I thought I'd just make it myself, what with the minimal effort needed.

Anyway, since it looks like I won't need to make this add-on, I'm thinking this thread should probably be locked.

I'm eager to see what you do with this, FC!

Forcing a poor companion cube onto a rollercoaster... This may be the most heartless thing I have seen on these boards.

It's like a dream came true :)

I've been torturing wolves like this for ages, keeping one stuck into a cart, making it run back and forth indefinitely. This will be even better. I can't wait :p

Man, you guys LOVE twisting my wolf-related kindness into cruelty, don't you? I wonder if there's a single thing I could do to my wolves that you couldn't paint as horrible :)

Give it another try. There could be loads of untapped cruelty in your mind, just waiting to be suggested...

Hehe...yes, I suspect Raust has a twisted core that has only been covered by the wolfaboo facade that BTW has slowly been eroding away.

Come over to the dark side Raust. You can not imagine the power it will give you.

Heh, yes, you probably had something to do with the erosion of my love of wolves, but I think most of the credit goes to Jonkagstrom, that bastard :)

Anyway, I'm both excited and terrified to see the final product of this FC :)

Your attempts to bring me to the dark side won't work, and I think, deep down, none of you really want them to :)

This is a reason for getting banned? I have a bad feeling about this.
