1.1 + BTW Sheep plans (Bwahahaha)

Post by Ribky »

Oh boy, I can't wait to do this!

The good old block dispenser is gonna make automating this a blast with the sheep regrowing wool update.

I have some nice ideas to automate something like this :)

Will need to test some stuff out prior to commiting though, can't wait for the next update ;)

Dont they only regrow when eating long grass? I can see that being challenging for automation :D

As per wiki: As of weekly snapshot 11w49a, sheep will eat grass, turning it into dirt. This will make their wool grow back if they are sheared.

I believe they mean grass blocks.

Probably not, since the sides being grass colored is only a graphical changer made to the grass block that doesn't really change how it functions.

how does your current plan shear a sheep a second time? Once the block dispenser has wool in it, it would place a wool block in front of it when powered; and it needs to be on to be able to shear.

Maybe :
-BD-Shear the sheep
-Output wool bloc
-Piston wool bloc away
-repeat
?

Alternatively, have a sticky piston push a block in front of your block dispenser every time you power it.

What happens when the sheep can't move out of the way when the BD places the Wool block and retracts it immediatly?

You know what? Sheep should trigger stone pressure plates only if they're wooly, to better automate this process!

and then the string would get stuck on the pressure plate. You can use buddies to detect sheep eating grass though...

Stone pressure plates don't get triggered by items.

and water can't flow over them. So you'd be left with string, stuck on a pressure plate.

Waste is bad.

I wonder, can you set up a system where sheep can eat grass next to a BUD, and other grass can spread back to it, but that sheep can't eat any of the adjacent grass?

Maybe a 2-high wall where the higher blocks are grass? That should in theory allow the grass to spread down to the block the sheep can reach without allowing the sheep to eat the "seed" blocks.

How about a block of grass underneath some glass?

Sorry about the 2 day necro here, I had to take my wife to the loony bin (serious), but I am interested in elaborating on this.

That part of the functionality was totally forgotten... blast... it would of been nice to completely automate all 16 colors of wool that easily, back to the drawing board I guess.

But mark my words. I will automate colored sheep shearing using one sheep of each color.

Surely you can use a breeding harness to restrict thei movement? This will mean that they cannot eat all the grass in their pen. Or will they not be able to regrow wool with a breeding harness on?

My first test was with a harnessed sheep. I couldn't get any wool off of it :|

I wouldn't consider it impossible just yet man. Once placed within a 1x1 cell most animals freeze up anyways so a harness isn't necessary. Also on the few videos I've seen I haven't actually seen the sheep remove the layer of grass from a block when they eat it. I've got quite a few tests I'd like to run on these guys yet so don't give up hope so early ;)
