Recommend a good anime

Post by kaos78414 »

I've been looking for a good anime to watch lately. I'm partial to comedy, slice of life and harem. But anything will do, so long as it has likable characters and a good story (that moves at a good pace - anime has a tendency to drag on)

I was going to provide a list of stuff I've seen, but its been so long that I'm willing to rewatch anything. Just curious what you guys would recommend. Extra points of its on netflix instant queue.

I would have to recommend Sailor Moon. It may have came out many years ago, but it is very good.

FMA Brotherhood it is! :)

EDIT: Also just had to comment. @Panda I watched a few episodes of DearS a while back. I liked it. I do enjoy ecchi, so I tend to gravitate towards those animes, and that one is on my to-watch list.

i like my anime to not have multiple seasons. while i was a fan of dragon ball z, that kind of extreme length series annoys me. open ended stories have a tendency to fail at having a story line. like bleach (or the tv show lost). so my suggestions are:

Gungrave
Gantz
Hellsing Ultimate
Deathnote
Basilisk

I think "Black Lagoon" was also pretty good, but I might be confusing it with another anime. My favourite anime of all time though... that's simple. Trigun.

With the description you've given in the OP, I have to recommend Fruits Basket, even though it's reverse harem.

Note that any I recommend is from someone who finds most anime truly annoying. I was in a rush earlier, so I'll chime in with a few more. Also, with FMA Brotherhood, you're in for a treat. Don't even bother with the regular FMA trash, enjoy!

Samurai Champloo (I second this)
Trigun (Strange but good)
Cowboy Bebop (Also strange but good)

I know it's a stretch in terms of legit 'anime' but:
Avatar: The Last Airbender

It's still one of my favorite cartoon/animes, ever. Although FMA: Brotherhood was freaking amazing.

Why has nobody mentioned Hetalia? That's what I'd recommend, if you like a bit of European history and friendly stereotyping of various countries' citizens.

I don't know how, but nobody has mentioned Code Geass yet. It's a great thinker. Not as good as Death Note, but still up there. But as far as entertainment goes, FMA all the way.

Also don't bother watching the second part of Death Note. It sucks. You'll know once you get there, personally I turned my pc off and went for a walk.

Yeah, the second season of Death Note kinda went over the top, but I found it good regardless (loved the intro as well).

Elfen lied can be described with two words: fan service. It's bloody and crazy and harem and whatnot and you might enjoy the first watch, but it'll suck bad on the second. I still remember it fondly though.

Try El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, it's good, fun, sweet and doesn't drag on. (sci-fi, action-ish, comedy)

i feel a need to ask, has anyone else seen Gungrave? I'm just curious if I'm the only one to nominate it because I'm the only one to have seen it, or if other people didn't enjoy it as much as me. I'm kind of biased, because it's from the same guy that made Trigun, which is my favorite anime and one of the first that sucked me into the genre/style. So I thought I was perhaps being a bit of an immature fanboy, and that it was likely that Gungrave was superior to Trigun. Can anyone give me a second opinion? :)
