...God dammit, that's genius. I was thinking of anarchy purely in terms of everybody for themselves, the social aspect of the gameplay didn't even occur to me. It almost forces emergent organization, rather than the standard "dig a hole and hide in it" strategyFlowerChild wrote: ...or I could be thinking that giving anarchy play a central focus to fight for control over would change the "everybody hide in their hole" dynamic by creating a bottle-neck that players would have to get through in order to progress past a certain point in the tech-tree, and which would make higher levels of tech much more valuable in terms of what you would need to achieve to get access to them in an anarchy environment. In fact, it might be so difficult that it might actually require a group of players working together to pull off.
As the devil's advocate, I feel obliged to point out that I fail to see your above point :)

I'm not sure if I've talked about this before, but for many years in my career I was considered a "multiplayer specialist" both in programming and design. The naysayers that have been saying that BTW isn't MP because it's too hard, or the mod is too complicated, or it wasn't designed for it, or whatever, have just been plain wrong. I've really been planning and designing for it from the start, but just didn't want to deal with the archaic way the code was organized for MP (in that case, my experience with MP was what stopped me from doing it).
I've also been labeled as a "Wii specialist", "Music Game specialist", and a few others. Really, what my specialty was, was dealing with new forms of gameplay (which each of those things were at the time I got involved) because that's what really floats my boat as both a gamer and a designer. That's probably what attracted me to modding MC to begin with as I saw something very new in this game.
Anyways, just to say that I wasn't exaggerating when I said I was chomping at the bit to start implementing features for BTW SMP. However, that enthusiasm has never outweighed having to work with the code in the state that it was when I knew that would eventually be rectified. As a professional, I also got used to development cycles that could sometimes stretch on for years, so waiting awhile before porting it never seemed like a big deal to me.
Things are going to start moving real soon though. I expect we'll be seeing a real renaissance for BTW over the coming weeks and months.

The first question I of course asked about the new hardware was "so, does it vibrate?". The second was "is it water resistant?"

Well he can sling bull with the best of them.
(props if you get the reference)
A total conversion is the logical way to go and i was hoping that FC would have gone this way sooner, but waiting did save him heaps of work (more ids, sprite indices, etc) and keeps it additional requirement free so that worked out marvellously :)

As wise as they are, aren't those questions the very obvious first ones when talking about a potentially vibrating device ? ^__^FlowerChild wrote:Oi...you don't want to hear some of my early design ideas for the Wiimote.

Imo the prospect of foreign object insertion needs additional time during the design process.
Microsoft circumvented it altoghether with the xbox controller, conservatives they are...

Hey Flowerchild, could you be bothered writing a mini biography on the forms?
I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in how you got where you are today

As I think mormengil said some time ago, I wouldn't like BTW to be the mod that adds a different dimension that's really hard to get to. The 32 SFSB are a huge encouragement for the automation of the most difficult fully automated project provided by BTW. In no way will leaving all of that behind bring a lot of enjoyment. At least in my case. FC has had the same world for months on end, I don't think he's ready to just leave it all behind and start fresh in a different dimension.
If I've become increasingly frustrated with vanilla design decisions, and have gotten to the point where I want to change core vanilla behavior without messing with people's worlds, doesn't creating a new dimension seem to be the cleanest way to do that?

Heh, knowing FC, "Playing Devil's Advocate" is likely code for "Playing [his] Own Advocate".

Re: "Anniversary Update" Speculation
If I tally up the things that have been said (or I think have been said because my memory is really that bad) then the only things I can really think of is not a new dimension but a parallel world. You would be leaving everything behind but there would be parallel versions 'on the other side'. That way they could be giving new codes and dynamics....
Or maybe a time Machine? It would have all the benefits of the parallel world idea but you could come back to your world where it is corrupted, rotten and falling apart.
I don't think FlowerChild is going to really go any direction we have seen before with mods. It is one thing to think outside the box but FlowerChild seems to enjoy throwing the box away entirely.

Haha, I suspected that at first, but it was nearly confirmed right here:RaustBlackDragon wrote:Heh, knowing FC, "Playing Devil's Advocate" is likely code for "Playing [his] Own Advocate".

Either way, it only excites me more for this update. Plus, who knows, by the time mojang gets increased block IDs in, the SMP/SP merge might be complete. It would be a shit ton of tedious work for FC, but that would also mean that we might get this and SMP at the same time.
My mind would explode.
Re: "Anniversary Update" Speculation
Even assuming it's a new world... There's gotta be something pretty crazy going on there if he's using 30 block ids... I mean the nether only uses a half dozen and the end of course only uses 2. I think 30 block ids is more than how many the main world uses for naturally generated blocks!
Re: "Anniversary Update" Speculation
Of course to continue with speculation, some of those block ID's would likely be assigned to products produced using materials from the new world. I can't see FC creating a new world to explore without something that can be done it it.Sarudak wrote:Even assuming it's a new world... Could´nt the most of the 30 id´s be used for more sidings and such stuff? It was said that there will be cobble and brick sidings.
