Redstone can no longer be placed on upside down slabs?

I finally updated the server and logged in to find redstone items all over the place under our massive mobtrap near spawn. After some investigation I found out that all the redstone had popped off of uspide down slabs, wrecking the whole thing. I wasn't sure if this was intended or not so I'm posting in tech support to find out

I haven't opened up my established world, but now I'm scared to do so, because I use upside down slabs + redstone quite extensively.
