Just spawned into a new world, and holy crap.

So I started up a new world (the seed is 'Potato'), and holy crap, I found diamonds.

It seems that a ravine was just below another ravine, making a sheer drop down to the lava layer with diamonds nearly exposed to sunlight. WOW.

Diamonds visible from the top of the ravine, and there are more goodies as well.

I had something similar near my base, not in the spawn. But instead of diamonds there was a stronghold. I found it before finding diamonds, but it saved me a few ender eyes once i reached that point.
