Should i buy Dawn of War - Master Collection ?

Post by OlbaiD »

Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War - Master Collection is at 75% limited time discount at greenmangaming

Is it good ? Looks kinda cool in some videos. But it is "old", i mean theres dow II, but looks like this one doesnt have base build, should i have dow II instead ?

Is it a good price for an "old game" ?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Somehow they managed to make DOW 2 a completely different game from DOW 1 and quite frankly if you really want to know what happens to the Blood Ravens you can play DOW 2... Otherwise stick to DOW 1 and you will be fine

Yeah, ditto on the above. DOW 1 is one of my all time favorite games. DOW 2 is a dumbed-down action/RTS hybrid that doesn't do either particularly well.

I enjoyed both, DoW I is an awsome conventional RTS were I played hundereds of skirmishes. Well worth purchase if it has all the expansions.

If you are a graphics prude it is a little rough but excellent if you are a mechanics wonk.

DoW2 has slightly-above-average gameplay, lame plot, but a surprisingly fun metagame element to the campaign - gearing out your soldiers and deciding which missions to take and which to ignore was quite enjoyable.

It's definitely not an RTS, though. It plays much more like a WarCraft III "hero map", so if you enjoy those you will probably like it. Also the versus multiplayer is terrible, but the co-op multiplayer is pretty fun.

I haven't played DoW1 but I've heard it's a pretty good RTS game.

Avoid the second expansion pack to DoW2 like the plague, though; the first expansion is good, but the second was TERRIBLE.

That's a good analogy. I always hated those "hero" missions in RTS games too.

To me, if you want to make that kind of action game, there's a hell of a lot better interfaces you can use than one based in RTS games.

Also as a side note if you do pick up DOW2 dont bother with Retribution cuz its probably the worst piece of shit of all the Dow expansions. Its just the same campaign spread across 4 races that play exactly the same... pretty lame

You will want to mod it a bit to zoom out more than the default allows but...

Yeah. Old or not it still holds up

It's making me want to reinstall also but I think I lost my disks...

PS: Are any of those mods good enough that they're a must play?

My question is more, which mods would you recommend for a first-time player on a modern system?

After the second time I couldn't find my discs I just repurchased it on Steam. You can get by with just Soulstorm for most mods if you don't want to lay out the cash for the collection

Hey hey.

I finished the DOW and Winter Assault Campaigns. Both games are awesome, but i couldnt play them widescreen (i have 1366x768 res), seems to be a problem with steam version. Theres a Widecreen mod, also some .exe changes, it works but minimap becomes useless because you can only use a part of it. Anyone had same problem ?

Next im going to dark crusade, i aready opened game and made a preview of the campaign, looks like a risk game, also i can play campaign with all races (different endings maybe ?) - it looks like very time comsuming 4 all races. This game works widescreen :)

For last ill leave soulstorm.

I assume that i should mod soulstorm after the campaign. any mod suggestions ?
