Looking for someone to record poem voice over

Post by Sockthing »

Hey guys,
this might be a strange request, but please just continue reading.

So I have this university project, where I'm creating an animation to a poem (The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy).
This is where I need your help. We are required to insert the poem itself into the animation. As text or as a voice over.
I decided I want a voice over of a soft, calm, maybe deep voice. But I have nobody in my area, who I know and would fit these criteria.
So if anyone of you is interested in giving it a shot, please PM me.

Thanks a lot!

TEASER! 720p for best sounds!

Here is a concept art I made, so you can get a feel of the animation itself:

The Darkling Thrush

I leant upon a coppice gate
When Frost was spectre-gray,
And Winter’s dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.

The land’s sharp features seemed to be
The Century’s corpse outleant,
His crypt the cloudy canopy,
The wind his death-lament.
The ancient pulse of germ and birth
Was shrunken hard and dry,
And every spirit upon earth
Seemed fervourless as I.

At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited ;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.

So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware.

I could do it if you think my voice would work for it.

The obvious answer is that you should get Nick Cave to do it:

Just a quick reminder, if anyone is still interested in doing this, I would need the audio file rather soon.
Very thankful to all that gave it a shot!! :)

Thanks man!
It would be nice if you could speak like half as or even slower as you just did and have longer breaks between the stanzas?
That would be awesome :)

Any chance you could record a single line so I know what speed you're going for?

maybe to get the right feel to it. imagine it's the christmas days, outside everything is white, there is so much snow. and you are sitting in the warm house all tucked in, sitting infront of the fireplace. you hear the wood crackling and you have a warm tea next to you. in your lap is a story book which you are reading to the kids around you. and they so eager to hear the story that no one talks. just your voice, slowly ready the story, and the fire crackling in the background.

just a little something to get you into the mood, how I want the poem read. :)

Sounds good. I'll rerecord a little later tonight. Want each stanza in a seperate file as well as the whole thing in one?

Well if the pauses between the stanzas are big enough, you can record it all in one file

I love doing voice related stuff at the moment, and the poem is beautiful, so I felt like giving it a shot:

I'm not a native english speaker though, but if you're looking for a slightly exotic twist I guess it might work :)

Hope you'll get what you wished for in the end.

TEASER! 720p for best sounds!

Note: We were given more time to work on this, so I have used my time for other projects, but next week I have free and full time to work on the final film.

Hah! Jude Lawish voice, I'll have to put that on my résumé.
Nice teaser there Sockthing, it really sets the mood. Looking forward to the end result.
