It's for the less intelligent of my nation's people... Unfortunately that seems to be 90% of us. But I'm also a bit of a pessimist.

I'm also exaggerating of course, I just think it's stupid as hell. Everyone has their own taste. My brother's love of it makes me laugh though.

When I first heard my co worker say "What does the fox say?" I assumed it was some kind of educational video. My response was to tell him how plants attract pest eating insects via chemical signal.

That was 3 minutes of my life wasted.

@Panda It's not a cultural thing. It made no sense to me and I'm American. Didn't really even find it funny.

I know some children with higher IQ's than 99% of the US population that love this skit. Its kinda like you're saying anyone who likes knock knock jokes is retarded. :p

I also went on to add that I was exaggerating and everybody has their own taste...

And intelligence quotient doesn't mean people aren't freaking idiots... I know several...

Myself included, though I have a bit more sense... I'd like to believe at least.

I don't know either. Maybe because it sounds like "what the fuck say?"? Maybe because of the aooh-aooh-aooh and other weird sounds?

My best bet is that you need to be drunk to "get" it.

Okay, well, I will say there is one thing that might (?) be lost in translation: At least in America, animal names and sounds are some of the earliest things taught to children, and so the phrases "what does the ___ say", or "the ___ says ___" are associated with childhood. When he asks "what does the fox say," it implies that this has been bugging him since preschool.

Probably because the fox isn't on these things:

But aside from that, I'm pretty sure it's just the stupid sounds he makes that made it popular. So basically... lowest common denominator.

Meh, not even. I can't say I'm familiar with that one at all. I would say an elephant trumpets. I associate "toot" with a train blowing its horn (although that still doesn't make sense when you hear what a train actually sounds like!).

In general, though, I'd say probably 90% of onomatopoeic words are bs. I mean, cameras don't go "click", and guns certainly don't go "bang!". And in my studies of Japanese, there is not a single onomatopoeic word I could figure out without having to look up (though that's an exceptional case; Japanese has sounds for things that don't even make noise!)

Seriously guys? I thought this community was a little more mature than this...

When you take this kind of work and brand it to the "lowest common denominator" or "the less intelligent of the nations people" does it make you any better than them? No, in fact I would say it makes you worse, since you criticize those who you already established as inferior with your own confirmation bias.

These guys are comedians for gods sake, their job is to make ridiculous things that are amusing to a wide range of people, and as such they have succeeded.

Also, don't you fucking bring up IQ's in here, they are arbitrary values based off of inconclusively correlated data and poorly generalized methods, or in other words: VERY BAD SCIENCE, and that's not even mentioning the extreme heterogeneity of such tests. If you want a gauge for how poorly an IQ test works across different cultures look up the Black Intelligence Test for Cultural Homogeneity (yes, it's a real thing, and yes, the acronym is really BITCH)

Take it easy man. Has some of the above been in poor taste? Sure. I really don't think it's worth flipping out over though.

I don't see it man. I haven't even watched the video, but I just reread the thread to try and find what you may be referring to here, and still have no idea.

I see people making rather crass remarks, that strike me as joking around, about this video and it being stupid, but that's about it. I certainly don't see anyone being directly attacked.

Again, I haven't even watched the thing. Just chimed in on this thread to make my own humorous comment about knock knock jokes.

Although the Fox one was... obtuse, that Dubstep one actually cracked me up a little bit. Aren't these guys Norwegians?
