Thanks man, I took care of that.

Sweet baby Jesus....did the mob AI improve? I swear they're teaming up to get me...

A spider asshole shot web at my spiderproof wall ( the vanilla design of a 2 high wall with a 1 wide lip over a ditch) to fill in the gap. He then jumped at the web, used it to scale my wall and scare the everloving crap out of me. 0_0 Luckily I'd murdered a zombie for an iron sword (Half-durability! Result! :D) and squished the bastard.

Later while reluctantly caving (needed supplies but didn't really have the torches or food for it) I'm running from a creeper back into my safe corridor and a bloody endermen drops his stupid block in front of my exit door! Creeper explodes and I nearly died. Luckily he blew open my safe path, which I have never been more glad I've slabbed, so I got somewhere safer to recover.

With the zombies stealing all the goddamned food, I'm just waiting to see what "fun" the skeletons are gonna pull. Or maybe they'll behave...I seriously doubt it.

Most heart attacks I've had in month there, all in one day.

I can swear here, right? Fuck fuck fuck FUCK! FUCK YOU DAMN SPIDERS!

Sorry for the profanity, guys, but I needed that :D my first reaction with the shooting webs was that.
Branch mine in my main world (already quite developed), I hit a ravine, decide to light it. The spider was stuck, trying to go through a hole smaller than itself, and there was iron ore nearby. I decided to dig said iron before, then kill the spider. Then some retarded zombie jumped from nowhere to get me, I decide to pillar jump to avoid it and kill more safely, and guess what, the spider decided to shoot me a web! Killed by a zombie while both Steve was stuck in a web, and I was stuck in a "what?"!
--Buuuuuurrrrp! (I admit, I laughed a lot on that).

Time for my side world, the recent one (I'm playing from the scratch since the iron nuggets). A bunch of leftover hemp seeds, so I decided to grab some chickens to raise. Got three of them, built an ugly 4x4 pen, still manual... and the spiders decided I was being greedy again.

My plan for vengeance: I'll do a Dwarf Fortress-like silk [string] farm with the first spider spawner I find, hopefully in this weekend.

The game is getting the same vibe of the old 1.6 beta for me. I'm loving it.

When I loaded up BTW today with the new version, I was not expecting my entire cow pit to be devoured by one zombie. I found him just sitting upon the carcasses (leather and XP orbs) of the poor creatures. Now I'm trying to finish up my wall around my base so that I can protect my future cattle. That was quite the surprise I found from this release FC. :)

Hehe...nope, but I'll let you in on a little trade secret in that the secret to good game AI is not making creatures more intelligent, but rather to give them the air of being more intelligent :)

Hence why I was an opponent to them bringing on an AI specialist and such into MC, and as you've all seen, them doing so had negligible impact on the game (other than hurting the frame rate).

A few behavioral changes on the other hand, and suddenly the mobs feel much more threatening, and even more intelligent, like they're truly conspiring to bring about your demise ;)

So I spent about 2 weeks running around searching for a village (Large biomes, my own fault of course) and was enjoying it every minute. I was taking risks yet after learning from a couple close encounters decided better. I didn't find any surface iron and I never went deep enough into caves to attempt it, so I didn't have too much of an option to farm anyways. Now before I even came close to finding a village, I found a jungle temple with a bunch of iron and a couple diamonds. So I fortified the temple for the night, made my tools, cooked some food, then when morning came collected my torches, walked out the front aaaaand... Boom.

I hate creepers again, that is all.

as a side note I noticed finding cobwebs left over in the morning, yet still don't know how they got there. I was hiding in my cave so maybe something else initiated it. The first time a spider trapped me though, a creeper was waiting around the corner...

I just recently found out my animal pen wasn't quite spider proof and came up from mining to find the pen littered with cobwebs and chicken feathers (no spiders, and sadly no live chickens were still present though). Seems they've developed a taste for poultry in addition to the usual Steve meat. One thing I did notice though was that all of my pigs (which were kept in the same pen) were seemingly untouched as there was an absence of pork. Might just be me though as I have way too many to keep track of the buggers. Still curious as to where the perpetrator disappeared to though.

One of the first things I did upon finding a village was board up all of the testies in their own homes to keep them safe (and stop them from pissing me off with their door fetish). Looks like I'm gonna have to do the same with my animals now. Have to venture out to get some more chickens too now :(

I found that usually you can easily kill the spiders by moving into a building or digging and entering a 1x1x2 hole in the ground, and then when the spider is crawling on the roof above you you just attack it and it keeps coming back. Even when it shoots web at you it will not have any effect since you don't need to move to fight it and you can clear the web out later. It really feels like I'm cheating.

Sounds good until a zombie wants to boogie in your hole and gobble your meat.

The main problem I've had with spiders is the fact that I tend to run from most combat situations I get in, and now booking it in a straight line the opposite way can often leave me in a sticky situation. It happened during my early encounter with spiders after the changes where I was fleeing and a I got webbed to the spot leaving me with a panic induced wtf moment. I only had the one axe on me and decided to use it to deal with the spider behind me first but naturally it broke on the 3rd hit, making me an easy meal for the incoming mobs. I'll agree that spiders on their own, or even with zombies, can be easy to deal with, but being rooted to the spot is real kick in the teeth in the presence of creepers and skellies. Getting caught in a web early game is practically a death sentence, especially if you lack an axe to clear it quickly.

I love it when a plan comes together :)

You've pretty much described the gameplay intent spot on here.

When I first saw spiders could shoot webs all I thought was "aw, that's pretty cool" and naively considered it to not have much impact on game play as I didn't really see my self getting caught in it. In hindsight I have no idea what I was thinking back then.

ERMAHGERD!!!! THE SPIDER JOCKEY!!!!

It's officially scarier than a hostile enderman
Two feet standing on a principle
Two hands longing for each others warmth
Cold smoke seeping out of colder throats
Darkness falling, leaves nowhere to go

I had a good laugh at this. Apparently zombies will aggro on bats as well. I found two scrolls down in a cave and a zombie holding a third. Zombie exterminators. Nice!

Wait, three scrolls? Aren't they super rare? Now, I wonder if mobs killing each other increases the drop rate.

Which just gave me an idea to make a pig/cow farm using a zombie as the killing mechanism. Haha

If I remember correctly the drop rate on bats is higher than the others due to their farming system not being created yet.

Also, watching zombies chase after pigs at night is quite funny. I think I saw about five of them chasing a single pig all night.

I was just getting out of my house when I was attacked by a spider. When I turn back to fight, I see a second spider being hit by the first spider's web, and then they began to fight to each other.
This release was just great

Nah, that's not it. Whatever people are seeing is unrelated to anything I've done. Mobs shouldn't be attacking bats at present. They may have just flown into lava or other derpiness.

More amusement from the spider's new ability to sling webs:

EDIT:
On a related topic, spiders seem to have completely lost the ability to swim. As I was huddling in my little cliff side bunker for the night, I knocked a spider into the water, and was surprised to see it remain on the bottom of the pond until it drowned. Was this intentional?
