Villager trades don't accumulate XP

Whenever I complete a trade with a villager, I get the red X in the window and the sprites around the villager when I close the window, but upon interacting with the villager again, no progress was made to the XP bar even though a new trade is now being offered.

At first I thought it was just my texture pack not displaying the correct elements of the interface, but the problem persists with vanilla textures.

Sounds like you have yourself a Creative world there, Villagers don't level up in Creative Worlds

Oh, I see. Wanted to get familiarized with the new trade mechanics but I guess that'll have to wait then.
