Placing an iron tool in the crucible will return the correct amount of metal ingots. (1 for shovel 3 for pickaxe etc)

Edit: works for steel tools
Gold tools
Powered rail > returns the gold
Detector rail > returns iron
Rail > does nothing
Compass > returns 4 iron
Clock > returns 4 gold
Iron armor> returns appropriate amount of iron
Gold armor > returns appropriate amount of gold

wow, great work... that's a lot considering you were almost burnt out last week... hell that's a lot anyway.

BTW:you may want to hold out on that lens a bit longer; notch is adding a new lighting system and you may be able to take advantage of it.

I'm not sure I like that at all....You can damage an item to no durability then re-smelt it into ingots, then reuse it? I guess you'd have to go back to a crucible each time to do so, but you'd never have to use more steel to make a tool again.

On another note; time to find out how to get the second state of a planter.

Oh great ruin all my fun. Nah just kidding, I did try to put water in it first though with a bucket (probably shouldn't have done it by redstone, haha). Thanks for the info.

It's basically a repair system...with a cost. The metal parts of tools can be reforged, while the non-metal bits are lost.

Personally, I'd try it before being too critical.

You'd have to make the haft again. You also have to remember that this is the top of the tech tree. You've earned the right to smelt.

Also I hate you Camerinthus , editing the wiki is addicting. ;)

True, I forgot about that.

And for the planters with dirt, they need to go like this:

X-D-X
X-W-X
X-P-X

D=dirt block
W=water bucket
P=Planter

I guess it's just because I have a skeleton spawner providing me ridiculous amounts of bones with which to make glue. And my dung farm keeps me happily supplied with too much dung to handle.
Who knows, perhaps I'll warm up to it.

On a brighter note, I love the planter recipe and everything else with this update. Keep up the great job!

The Planter recipe was already in the previous version. The only thing that changed there was that you could previously plant in a Planter without dirt in it due to a bug.

Which is why it never occurred to me to try and craft it to a next step, hehe.

Tried placing it on the ground and pouring water/placing dirt into it at first.

I meant when it was 2.90 actually. Right after I got done firing it that's what I tried. Ruined my redstone wiring for my bellows (good thing it was just 1 piece of redstone dust).

No, you can never have enough! Actually, the kiln takes quite a lot of bricks to build (if you want it to also look good) so a large amount of clay is good :)

The planter doesn't give off a clay ball, but after the vase is spun out, it gives out two clay balls, still equaling four total(one from the crucible). Is this intentional?

I'm kind of late on this, but this is an awesome update (watched a video spoiling all the new stuff hehe). But I have to wake up soon >.< can't play this till tomorrow evening, and then I'm going on vacation for a bit, too! Damn vacation, getting in the way of my Better Than Wolves.

Logically it makes perfect sense. Battered and cracked iron armour could be melted down into the exact same metal that was used to make it, then reforged and smithed. The cost would be in the fuel needed to melt it down.

I really like this, actually, as it gives me a reason to make a full set of iron gear rather than just making stone/leather whenever I need tools and armour.
Abracadabra, you're an idiot.
