Retro SciFi Texture Pack [32x] (Updated November 10)

Post by Dr. Kylstein »

This texture pack requires MCPatcher for full function. (Optifine is reputed to be a decent substitute, but I haven't verified that.)

Hey, I've had a look and its coming along really nicely.

It's not really my kind of pack, but I like what you've done with the mechanical devices. e.g. water wheel, axles, etc.

A couple of points:

1. Hemp crop appears to be invisible. I'm running the latest version of BTW + optifine.
2. From a usability standpoint, there needs to be a bit better differentiation between functional blocks, e.g. block dispenser, furnace, etc.

Nice different style of pack though. Good work.

Oops! I'd known about this before but I forgot. I've copied FC's hemp back in for now, the link has been updated.

I actually haven't done anything to the BD since I initially copy-pasted the textures from an older version of the terrain sheet, so I'll put that at the top of my to-do list.

Thanks for the feedback!

Edit: Forgot to save my file before uploading, hopefully nobody clicked that link before this edit.

Dude... Just... I'm.. Words.

This is wonderful. I can finally emulate all those Heinlein and Asimov books I devoured a few years ago.

No longer will I have to make due with steam-punk, waste land, or far-flung futuristic themes.

Thank you for this. You are awesome. Keep up the good work, and may your creations always heed your command.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find my inner mad scientist. =D

This TP is sexy beyond description. I probably won't be downloading it just yet because my OCD can't handle mismatched vanilla/custom textures, but I'm definitely looking forward to this.

EDIT: Oh my God, are those tentacles on the Bloodwood? I think I love you.

Mismatches bother me too, which is part of the reason I waited until most of the texture sheets were finished. For the next update, I plan to have my initial BTW items sheet done.
Decanet wrote:EDIT: Oh my God, are those tentacles on the Bloodwood? I think I love you.
Yes, it's part of my concept of the Nether as a giant eldritch creature. Unfortunately, the bloodwood leaves in-game use the normal leaves texture with a red tint instead of the tentacles on the texture sheet.

This is fantastic, even down to the subtitle on the texture pack selection screen.

The skeletons are genius!
I was wondering what was up with the new bone icon, and then night fell.

The light blocks and lapis blocks are especially nice.
The platform texture inspired me to finally put in an elevator to my airship.

I wasn't looking forward to the hunt for a stronghold and a nether fortress,
but now I'm excited to see what you've done with them.

You've done a great job of giving everything a bit of a different feel, and a consistent
look. I love it!

I have a few small points of criticism.
The redstone torch ends have a wonderful vacuum-tube effect in the repeater,
but without any red anywhere on the standalone torch it takes me a while to
recognize them.

The block and item dispensers have a quite similar front texture, and the same top
texture, so they can be a bit hard to tell apart, especially in the inventory.

I am pleased to hear that those details have made an impression, ialdbaoloth! I hope you aren't disappointed by the dungeons though--I actually haven't seen either type with my textures yet. I'm already working on your suggestions for the next release, as they were things I had considered myself.

I'm loving this pack. Here's a really quick couple of shots I took of a few rooms in my base to give people a feel of what this pack is like with BTW. Keep in mind that I'm no building or automation pro.

(Apparently bumps change the date of the last post. Decanet's post above is old.)

I decided I should post that the pack was updated yesterday (changed the OP). Highlights of this release include:
-All vanilla guis done
-Most hostile mobs done
-Xtreme Paintings mod support (some paintings are still blank)
-Connected textures support
-A very different looking Nether
-Updated to the latest version of BTW
-Many existing textures were modified, such as grass and stone

Post by Dr. Kylstein »

Another update, now including the 2.80 additions.

Highlights:
I've added pigs, cows, and sheep complete with breeding harnesses. I've also added squids and some RandomMobs villager variants. My favorite change is that the battle axe is now an animated reciprocating bonesaw! Burgers and TV dinners are now on the menu (beef and pork). The cobblestone is more conventional, in a style similar to sandstone. The netherbrick is now a darker version of the old cobble, and I'm using ladders as all-purpose chrome piping now.
Spoiler
Show
Image
Those are ladders on the sides of the lamp base and netherbrick fence as the pole.
The wool and stone bricks are likely to change again in the next release. The mossy stone brick is supposed to look like colored bathroom/pool tiles, in case anyone wonders why it's less realistically mossy now.

A quick notice: I forgot to update the ctm file when I uploaded yesterday. The download link has been updated with the fix.
