Exactly what happened on my server and in our LP. It's a huge distance back to our main base and it just makes more sense to build a route through the nether to the new site. It would have likely been months before my friends and I spread out to establish new bases without this incentive, so it work...

Well that didn't take long. One session exploring a desert and I got a total heart attack from this new feature. Fantastically terrifying!
