HC slime stories & discussion [spoilers]

I was hoping to last longer than 5 minutes after the server went live. I was planning to drop off my decent gear, grab my trusty stone axe and wonder off into the outback. I never made it through my own base before I was ambushed by the green squelching mass. They escaped the saws of my grinder and ...

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road

Today I ate my words. After seeing the trailer and not really thinking much for it, I condemned it as something to grab from the bargain bin sometime next year. Then this thread cropped up. And now I want to watch it again. Some of the spectacle was more than a little ridiculous in certain places, b...

Re: HC-sheep: Can I breed white sheep?

This is an entirely theoretical observation based on my limited personal experience of sheep breeding. How 'purebred' are your coloured sheep/How many generations since a white parent? I'm fairly certain sheep follow Mendel genetics; dominant and recessive colour traits. If any of your sheep have a ...

Maps work a lot better in the overworld- they are fairly good at measuring long distances.

I'm not on much at the moment; but head over the the Everfree. [portal 9 on the map]

There's a jungle tree farm between the mob grinder and western desert- trees should [hopefully] be grown.

Version 4.99999A0F Marsupial!?!? -Changed the brightness of the changes I made to Hardcore of Darkness recently so that when Gloom isn't present, the overall brightness of the game should be much closer to what it is in vanilla (especially underground). In other words, things should appear a bit br...

Re: BTW Mempries as 4 Year anniversary aproaches

I think I've been playing since beta 1.6? It wasn't the first mod I'd played, but was certainly the first one I fell in love with- and the reason I still play MC today. As for my favourite memory? Those moments of pure stunning beauty and paralysing dread. http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab14/the...

Its probably a surface ravine/pit intersecting the mineshaft- looks like it lines up with a regular cave on the other side too. Chances are this is normal generation- MC does some fairly cool stuff when things line up.

Re: First Iron Tool: Pick or Hoe?

There isn't an exact answer; and what you do will differ from world to world. My last run was hoe first, then pickaxe, shears, pick, pick, and finally cauldon + pick. Or it would have been a cauldron had I not lost my last 30 ore, pick, and shears down a sinkhole on the way out. Swords, shovels and ...

Re: Chicken Automation

Well the cauldron is needed to make the hopper; so it'll work until you get the other pieces in place to get one going. ( depending on your strategy you could get a cauldron with your 3rd iron pick; long before a hemp plantation becomes established ) Though if you're this early in the game- I assume...

Re: Amalga: Co-op - Always 100% survival

Wood is a byproduct of farming saplings. If anyone has some spare saplings [oak/jungle]- I'm happy to trade you some wood (or rope). While I'm waiting for my computer, I was trying to flesh out my idea. The cloud layer is too low for the proportions I had in mind and fixing it means I'll need 3 stac...

Re: Stake and Hearty Stew

The simplest mushroom farm I know of is just a sloped field that you flood daily; washing the shrooms into a collection channel. I have no idea what the optimum field width/inclination is- or the ideal number of 'seeder' mushrooms that don't get washed out. If you want something high tech, a lens w...

Quick update; Figured out a auto sorting mechanism for the nether grinder, and fired up the killing mechanism. Silverhold now has some more peasants, and a second butcher. For long trips out I take 2 stacks of flour, and rely on hunting to provide enough meat for sandwiches.

Stakes are pretty good for creating suspended objects; fancy lighting, 'blinds' over the windows, bridges/platforms ect.
Also they combine rather well with axles and fences.

Re: Direction of Better Than Wolves and progress to date

I feel the survival phase is a cognitive challenge in its own right. Likewise when it comes to defen...

The biome thing would be vanilla [everything changed around b1.8]. FC also added his own tweaks to the terrain gen; but nothing that affects the surface morphology of the world.
