A wooden pressure plate placed on top of a fence will allow an item to trigger the plate and then drop through. Just make sure the fence is adjacent to a non-solid block so it doesn't connect. One dung = one pulse for food.

I noticed on the wiki that the crafting section is inconsistant on the broadhead arrow page. The ingredients list shows broadhead, haft , and feather, while the GUI shows moulding . The text above says molding, as well. I don't actually know the right answer since I haven't made it that far through ...
