Re: Tips for Caving?
Look up. Everywhere you walk, look up. Sometimes there will be openings above you where you least expect it, and you'll want to explore them or block them off. I hold that there is little that presents more hidden danger in Minecraft than a dark area above you. In a similar respect, ravines are bad ...

Re: On the Feeding of Wolves
On the point of what they can be fed: Experiment!
Dogs can actually be fed many of the more efficient foods that involve meat. Composite foods such as Eggs and Ham, or Tasty Sandwiches allow you to effectively double the amount of dog food you have. So go ahead: Let your dogs eat like kings! :)

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
We had a furnace. We had food. We had cobblestone. We had everything we needed, except for sticks to make more pickaxes. I don't see your point. ...alright, then, that is a hopeless case. So i went back to where my base was and found no base, because i went in the wrong direction heading back. You'...

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
So yeah, people who repeatedly die generally just aren't stopping to think . I still think there's more to it than that. If somebody is repeating the same mistake, perhaps it's because they tried the alternatives, and those didn't work out so well for them. In a situation like that, the most readil...

Re: Nether portal question
I think it has to do the placement of the portal in the nether. The portal spawned the side of nether mountain surrounded by lava. Sucks too because its lava for as far as i can see. That actually completely makes sense. The only reason the portal would have been placed so far from its center is if...

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
In short? If you repeatedly die for the same reason, it's because you're repeatedly doing the same thing you shouldn't be doing. Stop doing it, and you'll be fine. Well, let's be fair. Finding out how to adapt your playstyle is difficult when you're making so many mistakes. I mean, gunnerman's feel...

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
In fact, I'm quite certain you can get to an iron pick with just an hour of gameplay. Heh, I should time myself next time I die. I think I usually clock in at about 2 hours. (1 hour alternating between hunting/chopping and digging, and 1 hour straight up caving) Eventually I'll find a ravine or som...

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
I don't see there to be much choice when it comes to collecting enough iron for my first tool. I'm aware that the Nomadic playstyle fad has come and gone, but I don't fully understand how people got around the need for it when it comes to collecting iron early on. I think if you stuck at one spot a...

I just made one and put it up on the piano. The illusion works even if you're just walking by, so long as you don't turn to face it (there's no depth perception in your peripheral vision, for obvious reasons).

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
A good example would be my last world, where my initial spawn right next to a pumpkin patch. I took half of them and about 1 minecraft week later I was a few ore away from being able to craft an iron tool and start my first settlement and was killed by something or other. And yes, I still play noma...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Hmm, that might be true, didnt think of that. But yeah, i always wondered what happened to the sponges, they had some potentional for sure. They might have dropped the block due to the water mechanics in vanilla though. Way back before the community took over Minecraft: Sponges will NOT work like t...

Re: Nether portal question
ok so I took your suggestion. I took 4 trips through the portal 3 of the trips put me under my mob trap the fourth trip put me on the surface just outside of my mob trap. I was careful to make sure each time i entered the portal in the nether I did it front-right, front-left, back-right, back-left....

Re: Nether portal question
I'm assuming the desert portal is your first portal ever, and that you didn't move the automatically generated portal inside the Nether? I think I see what's going on here, but I can't understand how it happened. Or rather, I've never seen it happen before. If you can, here's a test you can perform ...

Re: Came back to BTW with strategies
Just simple stuff like "to have the tools I need by nightfall, I need X planks which means I need to punch Y trees until I can get an axe and then continue to collect Z logs, etc." It ended up being more trouble than it was worth. I just remember the magic number 14 (+1 if you need a shov...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Actually, in the context of vanilla, it doesn't seem like a bad choice. In vanilla, the XP system is really the only incentive for not dying. Costly levels, and high level requirements for enchanting with small level costs make XP sort of a thing that you slowly build up over time. Now, as for the w...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )
So in recent news, I just sent a probe to the Mün, thinking that one POT-2-XL would be enough for a temperature and barometric reading. We lost communication with the probe about a third of the way into its journey, but the project did at least confirm that space is really big . So... yeah. I'm stil...

Re: Mob Traps
The 2-high umbrellas have never worked quite well for me either. Every time, without fail, either the Enderman gets stuck somewhere just close enough that he doesn't want to teleport, or he sees fit to teleport onto the roof. At some point I started placing cactus on top (but then I got paranoid abo...

I personally use a hash shape with 2-wide lanes http://i.imgur.com/cIW1aa9.png I used this layout because I liked the aesthetic. Though I will openly admit that it still uses many more vines than are probably necessary (49% of it is vines!). Had my original plans not involved fitting the thing insid...

Re: The beginning of iron tier
Yeah, the issue is that I am casually mining when suddenly there are zombies attacking me out of nowhere. I suppose I should try actually blocking off dark passages to keep them from coming out. On that note, yeah, this is one of the most important things you can do. I dig out at least half of the ...
