Baha! I hadn't considered this, but for serious, I imagine that some documented efforts can be hilarious.

Re: Water terraforming? (Aquaforming?)

Watch some Youtube videos on how Minecraft water works Follow-up thought: Another possibility is to switch to creative mode just to experiment and learn about the water physics, but honestly I've never PLAYED creative mode (or any other MC mod, or any vMC at all, in fact) so I'm not entirely sure h...

I agree that it's possible, I've accidentally done it. The issue is that so far, it seems random as to when it re-floods and when it instead cascades horizontally.

I'll experiment in a backed up save. :-/

Water terraforming? (Aquaforming?)

My OS base is in a swamp lagoon, and I've made a shit ton of progress on an underground base, including farm, while scratching the surface on intended topside terraforming. My food supply is on the brink of being sustainable, as is my wood and sawdust. Once they are, I'll be able to justify a few se...

Re: Trouble starting hemp

Follow up: I doubled the glass ceiling and there's already evidence of growth after one or two day cycles (not sure because I've been using my new iron pick down below.) It seems as if the water was indeed blocking the sunlight. :) Thanks folks!

Re: Trouble starting hemp

Hemp needs direct sunlight to grow (or other bright light sources) the glass /shouldn't/ obstruct the sunlight (if i remember right, its been about a year since i played last) but water most definitely will I am quite surprised I didn't consider this. I think the simplest change would be to simply ...

Trouble starting hemp

First, a synopsis of what I've done. I posted before about my hemp farm taking a lot of damage. I lost most of my seeds, and my iron hoe is hovering around 40-ish percent durability right now. I do have 5 hemp seeds, and if I have to I can always scrape for more (I FINALLY managed an iron pick, so I...

Re: Getting started -- rambling, but could use some tips

Make sure you're careful where you keep your animals, zombies will break down doors to get to them. I've made that mistake a couple times. Just because they are inside doesn't always mean they're safe. Agreed. For the moment, I'm barricading doors behind dirt blocks 1.5x high, and blocking access t...

Re: Brown mushrooms vs poison mushrooms

It's not a royal bitch to farm them, you just need a different kind of design. There's threads about this, use the search. Also, browns only spawn in absolute darkness in darkest strata IIRC. I'd run across them, but datestamps on the posts, nebulous-or-absent references to version releases, and th...

Re: Getting started -- rambling, but could use some tips

I had some insanely fortunate luck during a fishing session and caught 9 fish in all of ninety seconds (thunderstorm, full moon, night, and I had a decent stockpile of bait and sawdust to cook it with.) With that and a healthy stash of tools, plus a few spare workbenches / furnaces / wood chests, a ...

Re: Brown mushrooms vs poison mushrooms

My understanding is that brown mushrooms need complete darkness (I'm positive of this) and poison mushrooms are the original light level 12 (I haven't actually tried growing these, but I don't think this was changed) Jack is correct. brown mushrooms need absolute darkness to grow, red mushrooms can...

Brown mushrooms vs poison mushrooms

Do the two varieties of mushrooms require the same light levels to propagate?

Re: Getting started -- rambling, but could use some tips

How is your farms taking creeper damage if you are indoors? Not enough lighting? I'm not exactly sure how the first one got in... this was one of those examples where you think your base is secured and you turn around to the hissing down of a detonation. The others came in through the brand new moo...

I can't even really tell what your question is, as in what kind of information you're really wanting here, or why it would be in this subforum if it wasn't implying a suggestion. Perhaps coherence would be a better thing to focus on rather than worrying about possibly being banned? :) First time po...

Getting started -- rambling, but could use some tips

I had to put gaming in general down for a while due to my studies. And really, for the same reason I can't officially afford to pick it up again, but I needed some sanity, so I started a new single player. Literally all of my Minecraft experience is BTW, and 90% of that is on a group server where an...

Question -- NOT A SUGGESTION -- about ambient temperature

First off, some fanmail: I was very late to the Minecraft craze, and I can proudly say that I have no vanilla Minecraft experience, as 100% of my Minecraft playtime is through Better Than Wolves. I don't count the handful of one-off attempts to sit down and play vanilla, and it just gets boring quic...
