Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

Mojang are only half the problem, the community hales them like gods whenever they add trivial content and Mojang keep doing it to be popular. i find it similar to the rats pressing the pleasure lever experiment, as they are killing the game in favor of praise. on the topic of stained glass, at lea...

Re: 4.8999999 (more 9's make it better) Spoiler Thread

Out of curiosity, are the people experiencing issues playing with noticeable lag? For quite a while my hopper xp storage spiral on the official server (which has quite a bit of lag issues) has been all kinds of messy. The lag on the server (and certainly my client) also probably isn't helped by my t...

In terms of subdued, maybe you could go for some colours that are closer to pastels?

A relevant tip I learned just recently: The same trick to attacking other mobs and animals applies here; don't spam click! Just like everything else, hats have a brief moment of invincibility after being hit. Waiting between your attacks can make the difference between breaking 3 stone axes on a si...

Re: fireworks as signals

I've considered setting up a launcher tied to a detector for scroll drops in my mob trap, but between wondering what the draw / sound distance was on the firework explosions and actually looking up the recipes, I decided not to bother. It would be a way to use up those stray mob heads though.

Re: In-game explanation for slabs preventing mob spawning?

You could use a texturepack where a warding symbol is planly seen scrawn into each half slab. As you have to craft and place each one it would fit :P Regular blocks are just being replaced and those crafted that lack half-slabs are unable to be warded. I suppose you could hamfist in an explanation ...

Aaand with a bit more tweaking, I've added on the timing system to make it automatic once you have Buddy Blocks and Block Dispensers: http://i.imgur.com/rChmmxl.png You can work out the wiring in behind yourself, but it just uses the BB to trigger a BD filled with mostly filler and one redstone torc...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Oct 2nd)

Obviously I don't want to make them too powerful or gamey, so I'm trying to strike a better balance between usefulness and convenience to hopefully hit the sweet spot where running to a chest to get some stakes and string is useful enough that people won't just opt to count the blocks manually inst...

So I was inspired to play around with the compacting mechanics finally, and while this still needs timing logic added in and some more refinement, I really like the concept I got going here: http://i.imgur.com/m2GFqzB.png As it stands, it is a two button urn maker using pre-anvil tech. Re: Terraria PC update apparently in the works, due Mayish.

I can't understand the reasoning behind making two identical world types with different textures. I thought the crimson biome was new, but then I made a new world and realized that it was just a re-textured corruption. It seems half of the new items added are just re-textured tools from the generic...

Re: Terraria PC update apparently in the works, due Mayish.

Yeah, I've been dying a whole lot since I triggered 'hard mode', and a fair bit before that too. Rather than easier, I'd say simpler (sometimes even at the detriment of gameplay). As has been stated, along with the content came lots of convenience functions, like other ways to obtain grappling hooks...

Also news: Terraria 2 will happen Source: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/10/03/terraria-2-announced/ Huh. I hope it will be more, for lack of a better term, balanced. Having more thoughtful progression (Not just gear-wise) would make Terraria a lot better, imo. Like with how it was mentioned ...

Re: Terraria PC update apparently in the works, due Mayish.

There's actually an option (has been for a long time) for if the game pauses when in the menu or not, though for obvious reasons it doesn't apply when playing in multiplayer. The 'return to spawn on login' thing is still one of my biggest qualms with the game and has been for a long time, because as...

Oh wow, I never made the 'Hamaxe' -> 'Mattock' connection before. Although I have to say that feels a ...

Psion: You used to be required to use an axe to collect wood that had been placed, but yeah, I actually feel the changes to the tools are for the best and have made them more consistent overall. Hammer breaks background walls and toggles block variations, axes cut down things like trees and tall mus...

Yup, I've been grinding through too and very quickly turned off the map as well. I have to say in the early game ropes are amazing and made a huge impact on the gameplay. I'm actually kind of sad now that I've made a grappling hook and ropes are all but irrelevant, except in elevator-like systems. I...

Soul Flux: What is it? [speculative lore]

So like a previous thread, I thought I'd lay out the facts and hear what exactly people think the new Soul Flux item is, and where it comes from. Basic Facts: Endstone cooked in a kiln produces White Cobble and Ender Slag. Ender Slag then cooked in a stoked cauldron separates into Soul Flux and Brim...

Re: Lossless Chicken Farm?

I've not made one like this recently, but I've found in the past that if you simply drop the seed 'onto' the hopper the chicken is standing on, the chicken is fast enough to eat it before it hits the ground. This does have the downside though that if you dispense a seed before the chicken is hungry ...
