I couldn't see how this feature wouldn't be overpowered/abused. On the other hand something that prevented mobs spawning but wasn't a torch would be nice for people who don't like to fill fields up with torches or getting chewed on by zombies.

I am pretty sure FC has made up his mind on this issue so I don't see the harm in putting in a recipe suggestion; made like the normal bed but instead of 3 wool over 3 wood it would be 6 Companion Slabs. ... and I thought these smelled bad on the outside.

When I first read this I couldn't stop thinking about Aliens and it would be a cool way to excavate but it would have to be really finite or it would be way over powered. As I read further I started to lean towards the item only features you mentioned.

Roughly rule 3, check out the locked threads most of the reasons are because of aesthetics , not worth blockid's or instant gratification ideas. Well other then the truly crappy suggestions. ;)

I do like the idea of giving nethercoal more uses later on in the tech instead of just lowering the tech level when you first get it.
