Re: How to Gain Courage to Progress

For me, the dream of one day having an automated soulforged steel factory is enough to keep me going. I was ~almost~ there pre-Harcore Everything; now I'm not even close (actually I just had to start a new world due to losing my old one in a move), but I'm still doggedly determined.

Re: About Portals and Direction of Facing..

I would guess that the easiest way to determine facing would be to make two portals near each other and compare their relative positions.

Re: Got an AMD voucher for 2 free games.

Titan Quest is way more fun to me than Diablo ever was (heresy, I know), especially if you find and drop the superlative Underworld mod on it. However, it's old enough that it would probably be pretty cheap to buy. Dues Ex, Tomb Raider (assuming it's the new one), and Supreme Commander are also all ...

Re: The Last Federation

The only docking mission I was really worried about was the one at the very start of the game - you can't just wipe the floor with the enemy ships, because doing that gets the ending you are presumably trying not to get. Other then that, I definitely agree that the combat is too easy in some places....

Re: The Last Federation

Yeah, I think they went a little too far though, specifically with the first battle docking mission.

I think where they've got it with the next patch - where shield damage doesn't reset the timer - is a happy medium.

Re: The Last Federation

For anyone (like me) put off by the game's permadeath mechanic, I'm happy to announce that is going away in the next patch. They are switching to a mechanic where dying costs you a number of months spent repairing your ship while the solar system moves on without you, which seems like a much more re...

The Last Federation

Thought I'd plug this here, as it seems likely to be enjoyed by people who like FTL or Drox Operative. Last Federation is a grand strategy space game by Arcen Games (who some may know as the creators of AI War). It features a crazy in-depth strategy layer, and surprisingly satisfying combat that I c...

Re: FTL: Advanced Edition

Yeah, this game sucked me back in... I don't use the clone bay much myself, but I definitely can see the advantage. It allows for some really silly tactics. Get boarded? De-oxygenate the entire ship and laugh. Everyone dies, but your crew just gets cloned. I also appreciate the extra tactical level ...

Tower of Guns - Roguelike FPS

Thought I'd mention this game, since I picked it up just recently and am having a blast. It's basically a procedurally generated FPS with roguelike elements (item/weapon drops are random, permadeath, etc), pretty intense difficulty, and some very clever level and boss design. It really brings me bac...

Re: Items after death

Or to be more specific: Assuming your items didn't get destroyed by falling into lava, you have roughly five minutes to recover them after dying; this is usually impossible. The five minute timer doesn't tick while the chunk your items are in is unloaded, but unless you are lucky in recognizing the ...

Re: Fruitless strip mining near 0,0?

Yeah, I meant spawn. I don't think my branch mine goes anywhere near actual 0,0, which is 100+ blocks away from spawn for me.

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Re: Fruitless strip mining near 0,0?

I just used my initial diamond pick very frugally until I had a crucible, after which point the drive to find more diamonds considerably decreases. :)

My branch mine is very close to 0,0 though and I've found plenty of diamonds.

Re: Any way to keep chunks loaded in SSP?

To clarify: I understand that it would be physically impossible to keep every chunk you've interacted with loaded at once because it would destroy your computer. I do lament that there is no gameplay way to keep chunks that are particularly important to you loaded other than physically being there. ...

Re: Any way to keep chunks loaded in SSP?

I will admit I have a similar issue - it's one of the aspects of MineCraft's design that always bothered me. Especially now that I am looking at needing, for example, to build a mobtrap for witches and slimes. The nearest swamp is just far enough away from my base to not be in the chunk load range, ...

Galactic Civilizations III and Kingdom Hearts 3 are big ones for me.

Also Destiny looks good, as does Shadow of Mordor.

Re: BTW-compatible Automated World Backups?

It is an awesome mechanic, by the way. Took me ages to figure out how it works ("but by the time I have a nether portal I'll already have a compass...?"), but once I stopped derping and realized it was for the survivors to make use of.... well, as usual, I applaud your game design. :)

Re: BTW-compatible Automated World Backups?

I am aware of soulsand piles, yes. If it was entirely my call, I'd probably learn to be okay with that and just use the warp to reunite us when we both die. However, my roommate finds the "rescue mission" very stressful from either side - she's not really comfortable playing on her own for...

Re: BTW-compatible Automated World Backups?

Ah, I knew I shouldn't have mentioned that. Figured it would derail the thread. Just quickly then: I entirely support HC spawn. In my single player world I play with cheats off. My roommate and I bypass it in multiplayer because it does not create the game experience we are looking for in a co-op ga...

Re: BTW-compatible Automated World Backups?

Thanks for that, FC. :) Actually, the water source bit is the one I'm mostly concerned about. My roommate and I already play with cheats enabled to bypass HC spawn, so we could in a pinch fix most mistakes short of world corruption or loading the world without BTW installed. However, even with creat...

Re: BTW-compatible Automated World Backups?

Something that backs up my world every half hour or so would be perfect. Basically just something I can roll back to if something silly happens, without losing a whole mess of progress.

I tend to play several hours a day, so once a week would not be ideal. :)
