Exposed spoilers will bring swift death. The Force Awakens
Early yesterday afternoon I got hit by a spoiler planted by a waste of carbon in a random and completely unrelated discussion thread. This was an 'it was his sled' level, weapons grade troll that partially seared itself into my memory before I could recognize it, causing me to scrap my plans to see ...

Speaking of fan edits, I found a good recap of the original trilogy

Re: Cool Videos 2 - No Youtube Tags, Use URLs -
I've long been fascinated by the power of narrative and game systems to do everything from education to entertainment. Now I am fucking terrified of that power.

Re: StarWars 1-3 fan theory about Jar Jar Binks
It's a lot easier to take the droid army seriously if it took a kung fu master leading an entire race's best warriors into battle. And then still would have lost if the controls hadn't been wiped out. I have to say I'm looking forward to the Belated Media 'What if Episode III was good' installment o...

It's GOG that is running the sale rather than Steam but Hard West is on sale for 25% off.

Re: Steam Sales
So they're doing a new format this time around. Everything that will be on sale is on sale for the same percentage all week long. No more daily rotations or flash sales. They may have something up their sleeves for the end of the week but right now it's all front loaded. Oh wow. Total information o...

Grav Free Weekend
I'm not likely to get a chance to play this myself as I'm leaving town in twenty minutes, but this looks like it has turned into a solid sandbox exploration sim. It caught my eye severalmonths back but I can't for the life of me remember why. Please let me know if you find out. http://store.steampow...

Re: The Martian
As far as the slingshot explanation goes, the character was on the autistim spectrum and that scene was actually really well acted compared to pretty much any other depiction of autism in cinematic history. The fact that the story was able to use that as a way to show the audience how a gravity assi...

Re: The Martian
The main reason I get excited by movies like this is because they are acessable even to people with very little scientific background. It makes the average person feel like they can have a stake in the exploration of space and that kind of public support is what future missions need.

Re: Steam Sales
Maybe it's just the fact I haven't played an RTS that wasn't built around clicks per minute that the inability to fire uphill wasn't out of the ordinary to me. I feel like I'm getting my moneys worth but it does screw over keyboard camera movement something fierce.

Re: Animals in 4.A (spoliers)
My bovine pit in front of my base entrance worked well enough on a passive basis. No matter how many mobs wandered in, it was inevitable that one would be a zombie that tried to chow down on one of the densely packed Bessies.

Re: Steam Sales
I didn't wait for the trial to end. It has depth to it an plenty of modern day quality of life improvements over the 90s, but it doesn't thrive on micromanagement like every single RTS I've played in the last 10 years. That's always bugged the crap out of me. The name of the genre is Real Time Strat...

One game I've been keeping half an eye on is Clandestine which is an asymmetric co-op title. One player runs the intel and the computer network bits while the other player is the field agent.

Re: Your favorite weather
Brit here - I sometimes forget weather can be anything other than cloudy. This is why I could never live in anywhere like Britain, or the East Coast (especially during winter). I would go insane without the sun. I think a surplus of sun would drive me to a killing rage. I love living in temperate r...

Re: Anybody wanna talk about "Thief"?
The studio behind Styx is more AA than AAA. They're well established but they do their work with much less funding and they tend to sail just under the radar. Sir, You Are being Hunted is indie and survival based but it's a great pure stealth title without maps. Not sure about the newer titles but t...
