Just a suggestion that if a BD spat out foul food onto a growable block/surface than it would grow if possible
This would not work for the regular dispenser (better balancing)

Sorry, though that you were more interested with the DB detecting the item rather than find the speed

If you can make the shaft two wide have it alternating to slow the items down

i just was trying to install another mod on-top of BTW when i came about a id clash
it was id 240(original) and it was called fcblocklens

I recommend better blocks
It is just amazing and can't play without it
It adds steps and half blocks for almost every block in the game and also has many tweaks and fixes such as stackable food

Its a good way to get cobble

should I use the spawner GUI mod to experiment with mob grinders

you have to be within 16 blocks of the spawners for them to spawn but is a great way to get items such as sle balls if in the right chunk

also make sure it isn't receiving power from more than one direction (i cant tell if it is because of the cauldrons particles)

Just use buildercraft
It has 100% compatability and is works like a dream

I had a boat launcher that would destroy any boat that even though of hitting a wall when leaving even at the smallest angle
So a boat that could withstand high speed impacts would be awesome

FC has implied that he really doesn't want to include another entity in the game
Also it would be alot simpler just to allow the current dispenser to fire broadheads
