Re: Illegal modpack with BTW
Some of these arguments I haven't heard since pre-school. How is it possible to combine an ability to type with the worldview of a toddler? That's a serious question by the way. If anyone has an answer or link to a research paper I'd love to see it. The key here is to remember that what we're seeing...

Re: Illegal modpack with BTW
Have been upvoting the copyright infringement and downvoting the 'this is great, steal more please' for half an hour now. I've actually broken my YouTube silence for the first time over this issue and the four comments I've made myself have resulted in a steady stream of flames. Good thing I've got ...

Re: Tool to rotate blocks/change facing
For panels and moulding, such a tool is needed since it is in some cases impossible to get the orientation you want. I would not want it to be usable on anything that takes up a full cubic meter, however. I really like the fact that you habe to plan your mechanical power layout and buiod it backward...

Planter production automation
I've gotten my two and a quarter square kilometers of 1.8 terrain reverted back to 1.73 and rebuilt up to the point where I have a structure that handles six millstones and a dozen turntables worth of industry. Matched with six kilns, I've been able to crank out a whole lot of planters. That's when ...

Re: Better than Steve
If there were to be an update to minecraft that FC thought would be beyond Steve's tech level than how would the mod develop from this point? What's your definition of steve's tech level? The first cars were built with crude tools most advanced devices were build in a garage or a basement. Really n...

Re: Uses of chainmail?
Yeah, archers were an odd breed. It was accepted as fact that to be a good archer, the training had to start with your grandfather. I was in very good shape back when I was doing SCA. If you've ever done any sort of melee combat (for fun or in earnest) you'll know it is tiring like no other activity...

Re: Uses of chainmail?
True, I was just trying to focus on the fatigue aspect since the thread was specifically about the armor. Fighting for even a short period of time in full plate is exhuasting, even when you've made your full plate out of scrap sheet metal and nylon webbing.

Lilypads don't seem to require shears. I harvested several with a sword while generating a large area to revert to a 1.73 map.

Re: Request for ideas: Blue dye
I really like the berry bush idea, not least because it could also produce farmable red and black dyes as well. The coal tar idea would probably require some sort of 'acid' to cook with coal dust in the cauldron to produce blue dye. The mollusk concept would start opening up a need for working shore...

Re: Uses of chainmail?
I really like that overlay idea for iron and steel helmets. It would add a downside to the protection offered by the heavier armour. Also if it's possible, the hunger meter could go down faster for each piece of steel plate being worn. Working in full armour was extremely hot and tiring. The battle ...

Re: 1.9 pre-release feature discussion
The impression I get from the snow golems is testbed. It gives Notch a way to play with NPC ally code that was guaranteed to not be overpowered and could be considered fun. They also add the trail mechanic which could just as easily be added to a mob that spreads fungus infection, for example.

Re: MCForge is awesome...
Hang on, if it ends up being possible to salt mod IDs, does that mean a single mod would be able to use several mod IDs, thereby allowing an author to use several hundred block IDs? Yes, but depending on how this would work (still looking into it and it does SEEM possible), it might have a restrict...

Re: New Release! (Version 2.94)
A grindstone might not require a block ID. It could be something as simple as a stone panel powered by an axle. Or placed on a turntable. How you would get that to interact with a sword would be an interesting challenge in the Chinese sense of the word, tho.

Re: New world, having problems, need advice!
I took me quite a long time to go from the two hemp seeds I found to having enough for a windmill, yeah. Lots and lots of hand grinding too even if you set up two millstones so you can alternate cranks. Also, if you can't find the lapis for a detector block, you can build your initial mill right in ...

With the dripping water, I now have to wonder if it would be possible for the water to eventually erode (destroy) the dirt between it and air underneath. It would force you to shore up your mineshafts or risk flooding without requiring things like Finite Water. Snow golems are going to be incredibl...

Interesting. If it could be rigged to load different minecraft worlds when they do the landing on planets thing, it would go a long way toward making real my fourteen year old fever dreams of making a version of Wing Commander where you could force a landing on an enemy carrier and load a Doom map.

It's just crazy enough to be completely insane. Therefore it is an excellent plan! Quickly! We need a list of at least 85 blocks to add! Rofl! That's a rather unique approach you're suggesting there :) But it's completely true. Notch using up another 50 IDs and he'll have the whole minecraft communi...

i'm kinda enjoying my world in 1.8 because I'm building everything I need to prepare for the BTW upgrade/expansion pack. I even have my typical 5x5 elevator hole going down to level 12 already set up. Aside from things like ender pearls, stacked food, etc, 1.8 generated maps are fully compatible wi...

Re: Uses of chainmail?
Slightly off topic but I've been thinking more on the subject and even if chainmail armor never gets added, the draw mill idea itself has merit. Chain without the mail part of the equation could be quite handy. In addition, having a draw mill would allow for the creation of wire and metal rods for a...

The navy is a slightly different animal but I have to say that I have never had reason to regret the training and discipline I learned there. Also, learning how to sleep while walking or in the middle of an engine room has come in handy several times.

Re: Uses of chainmail?
Drawing mill usually refers to drawing wire out of a chunk of heated metal. This wire was then wrapped around a shaft that was rotated to produce a coil of rings. Clip the rings off the coil, use pliers to assemble the rings into mail and you're good to go. It did take an extremely long time to prod...

How is it that people forget that Guy Fawkes went into parliment in order to pave the way for a Spanish takeover of England?
