Re: Deforesting with fire.
as long as fire spread mechanics are still the same (haven't tried BTW since the revamp), burning a jungle will clear out the leafy floor but half-burn the tall trees. not recommended unless you're willing to nerdpole up and clean the resulting mess. I tried it once. I regret many things.

Re: The Feature Request / Suggestion Thread - LIMITED TIME O
The ability to rename things, like in a vMC dead weight. Why? Seriously. I've never understood that feature or the desire for it. 1) Naming things is fun 2) Flavor Text 3) in an SMP setting, named items make it easier to differentiate between individual player's possessions/mark certain tools as pu...

Super Easy Brown Mushroom Farms
Side note: spiders can rarely spawn in these. they can't get out, however. the worst you'll get is a poke and some webbing.

Re: Language Packs for Better than Wolves
So apparently there are ways to edit/add language packs to minecraft, not sure how applicable this would be to BTW though. video tutorial on editing lang files. involves funny .jar copying I'd be interested in trying to translate BTW for japanese. been meaning to learn kanji for a while and this mig...

World height and mobfarming
So I've been watching a lot of vanilla MC playthroughs recently (the horror!) and a common theme for mobfarm design is how low in the world you should make them. Apparently, spawning rules apply in height subchunks of 16, so if you build a mobfarm below y=16 and clear any solid blocks between the mo...

Re: Mushroom Islands feel useless
After recently having to restart BTW due to chunk corruption, I went seed hunting for anything more interesting than a random seed. First one I tried was a mushroom island within sight of spawn, which was also a small island. After whacking the sole tree in the vicinity, I waded over and tried to se...

More texture news: Obsidian (again) and diamond blocks
Not sold on the whole retexture thing in general. Most of the new textures feel murky. don't hate the new diamond texture, but they're trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Re: The controller thread (HOTAS, Steam Controller, etc)
As someone who owns a Xbox 360 and ps3, its really convenient to hork a controller temporarily if I need it for a PC game. I've yet to try any high-end controllers, but the 360 and ps3 controllers I own suffice for me and family when needed.

Re: Farming: Dung, Blazes, and monsters in general.
Apparently blazes don't fly unless they see a player, so funnel rooms with vinetraps work. setting that up might take a few tries though. vinetraps burn. With the above method, balancing spawning platforms and space to drop the blazes takes a bit of finicking around to get the ratio right. mine is h...

Re: Farming: Dung, Blazes, and monsters in general.
One thing to note for blaze farms, nether mobs (including blazes) can only spawn on netherrack/netherbrick, so vanilla setups for those don't work. A blaze spawner inside nether fortress would by fine to farm ! Sorry, should have made that clearer. The spawning conditions apply to spawner blazes as...

Re: Early-game mushroom farming?
no kidding. I went from 2-3 1x5 cells to 6 pillboxes. the pillboxes still take a while, but are generally faster than the 1x5's. I've moved on to large mushroom arboretums for more yield, but that's later game if you don't find a mushroom Island near spawn. I've also experimented with a piston flood...

the 1x5 cells were 6 blocks apart. I had the same idea to fit them in the walls of my tunnels.

Re: Early-game mushroom farming?
Personally I use a variant of the ol' "Stick 'em in your tunnrls" approach. My tunnels are 3 high and 2 wide, but then I remove the blocks either side on the floor, before covering the floor in half-slabs. Voila, pitch darkness, perfect for growing shrooms. I experimented with a similar d...

Not all that fast, hence the need for several. If you need a lot of mushrooms, these are pretty cheap to build and can be placed practically anywhere.

Mushroom Farms in My SSP
I use these slab-based farms to grow mushrooms. all run on a single seed mushroom in the middle. There are 5-6 of them in my underground farming terrace. I call them Pillboxes (since they resemble pillboxes when made with a roof). Most of them are on different floors.

Re: Superflat Challenges.
there's an overworld superflat preset that should allow the creation of multiple biomes in superflat. if you can figure out which parts of the preset code does that, you can copy it over to your custom preset code and allow multiple biomes in your custom superflat.

This might be an odd request, but could you(Yhetti) make an aesthetic slime block? I think the way slime blocks look is pretty cool and would like to be able to build with them in BTW.
