Personally, i think the best way is to change your lifestyle... cut your sugar intake (no colas, sugary drinks etc) and eating low glycemic index food... whole wheat, oats etc. Also try to avoid fatty food.... I've not reach the nether tech myself, so i can't really test this... But have anyone tried using soulsand as floor for the room the portal is in? (Both nether and overworld) side.

The idea is for it to act as some sort of decontamination area that you'll go through each time we cross the portal.
