I'm more a fan of either a half slab sunk into the ground, or a slightly raised road with a nice edge to it. Roofs and torches can be very resource intensive, so I don't tend to go for those options unless it's just across my farm/town. You do realize that in BTW, snow falls on half slabs? But you ...

I spawn only in vulkano biomes, too.
And it´s very laggy :(

I think it makes sense to craft tools with flint and furnaces with smooth stone BLOCKS because then you can mine iron but you must find a village with a blacksmith to build your own furnace

i think the balance is good, when you disable the furnace-recipe
when you have built a kiln you can get charcoal, but this is more realistic than the furnace-thing
