Re: Noah Caldwell-Gervais: In-Depth Game Analysis on YouTube
he seems to be neglecting in that statement the ability of games to get players to feel like they are actually experiencing something rather than just spectating, and to make decisions themselves that will convey far more powerful messages than if they are simply witnessing someone else doing so. I...

Seems to relate a lot to what I use when training people; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_stages_of_competence With regards to design, the minecraft team are very much on stage 1. There is no push to recognise incompetence as the positive feedback they get drowns out any constructive criticism, an...

Re: Arg, fuck, kill (ranting at cpw)
"Let's all get along" seems to be the prevalent societal trend, Fuck that shit. Seriously. Fuck. That. Shit. Between that and people not being able to take honest feedback and calling it "negativity" instead does my box in. How are people supposed to grow without adversity, hone...

(yeah, more useless GUIs) A note for Mojang. The more time players spend in fancied up menus and GUIs is less time we spend actually y'know...playing the game. This is a game about blocks in a blocky world where the fun comes from blocks in the blocky world interacting or being used in building wit...

Re: 4.69 Gameplay Balance Discussion Thread
Gates not breaking to zombies is a bit of an immersion breaker. I'm protecting hidey holes with gates followed by a door which I hate myself for doing as it feels gamey as hell - I'm sure I also saw an LP where someone was a trapdoor in a similar way. Poison and burning from cave spiders and blazes ...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.68)
Holy optimisation batman! Pre 4.68T around 40-42 fps, a lot of sticking and stutter 4.68T max 44-46 , still lots of stutter 4.68 50-52 fps. Smooth. Smooth as hell. Hell is as smooth as hell. The rain also used to make the game pretty unplayable to me, it still hits performance but tons better than i...

Yeah actually I have to echo a few other posters comments while trying to sound as un-ass-kissy as possible :) It's totally above and beyond the call of duty for you to be even taking a pass at this kind of optimisation so any efforts you make at this is really appreciated. The improvements you've m...

Man this game has came on a lot since I last played it. Going to take me a while to get used to all the new features, I spawned in, opened a chest and winter. I died. Day 1. Now I have some weird chest thing following me about... Going to take me a while to get my head round it all but there's tons ...

Re: 4.68T Optimization Test
Yeah, just tested sound on/off and particle settings to see what happened - with sound off game plays much smoother. Kind of hard to explain but rain makes the game play very "jerkily" to me and this smooths that out. Turning particles to minimal makes very little difference on my system. ...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Yeah, I liked the hit one zombie - you're going to have to fight his friends thing. I have a feeling that the % chance for the additional spawns will be one of those things that will increase over time with the regional difficulty thingy. Not sure how I feel about that tbh. If it was witches they ad...

Pre 4.68T max 40-42 fps, min (outside in rain) 22-24 Post update max 44-46 min 25-29 Stutter on crossing chunk boundaries is still there in overworld. The stutter generating new areas in the nether is much better. No more lava baths :) *edit* Just been looking on the mojang bug tracker - The overwor...

The zombie spawning thing is quite special at the minute - god knows why they included it in its current state, just take a look at this vid at around 7:30.
I know they'll fix it to something more reasonable in the coming weeks but still :)

Restarted in 4.65 - got my base setup and just achieved anvil level tech. Annoyingly I've cleared out 2 nether forts and neither had any nether wart. Healing potions would be nice... Got a safe tunnel set up to those forts and portals set up at them to explore the overworld, I've found 3 occupied vi...

Yep, it definitely feels that way judging from his tweets. Also to your earlier post the regional stone thing has tons of potential - it would really help each biome feel unique.Sarudak wrote:Does anyone else feel like he's just groping around for something to add that'll pass the court of public opinion?

Re: Hardcore Modes impacting overall balence
Yeah I think slowing down and enjoying the game instead of "rush rush endgame woot!" would help you get to grips more with the early game. Bear in mind that it was probably FCs explicit intention to prolong the early game quite a bit - so by going all out to get to the next tech stage you'...

Yeah, I assumed that it was shift+right click to dismount. If it's just shift = dismount then yep, thats very counter intuitive.
