Re: Request for Lenovo experiences
SSDs are night and day because the read time is much faster than a spinning platter. If you get an SSD, do know that they like to fail very unexpectedly, and make backups to an external drive. (Preferrably at least two. See this scheme for ideas.) Aye, I know my way around backups. I have an NAS sy...

Re: Request for Lenovo experiences
After a bit of conversation with the wife, and some mulling (I've been debating this particular model for a week now), I've put in my order with Newegg for the Lenovo. I'll watch the HDD, but I just can't give up that much space to get a SSD right now, but we'll see in the future. =p Thanks for the ...

Re: Request for Lenovo experiences
I can't imagine buying a modern computer that wasn't using an SSD it's like choosing to use dial-up internet... I have to admit to being a small part ignorant on the RPM of the HDD, mostly due to the fact that I've never actually run into it as being my bottleneck (It's always CPU or GPU), but I'm ...

Re: Request for Lenovo experiences
It has a modular bay which can switch out for a cooling system, secondary HDD, secondary GPU (which comes in this model), or an optical drive. The lack of an optical drive is absolutely no loss to me, as I haven't had use for one in many months, and my desktop has a proper burner if I have need of t...

Request for Lenovo experiences
I've been setting aside funds for a laptop replacement (the one I'm typing on now I obtained when I got out of highschool, and when I had no idea how to make this thing run any games besides Oregon Trail, which it does splendidly), and have finally set aside enough to where I feel comfortable stretc...

Re: The potential of lighting
I think if I were to go about torch burnout, I'd do it something akin to the way tree growth works, but on a slightly longer scale; a set time that the torch will last at least for, then it's just a matter of time until it burns out, but you never know when. To compound onto that with the relighting...

Re: Pics of your Storage room!
I can get behind this. My storage "Rooms" are built with massive storage in mind, seeing as previous rooms have needed extensions, or branches, or full blown overhauls due to my ever expanding hoard. I usually underestimate the number of blocks I want to tuck away, or a need that may arise...

Re: Hardcore Endermen Spoilers
Alright, I have my own question that I want to know if anyone else has encountered, or if I just had some odd case of it. As I got to the end to scope out an area for an endermen farm, I noticed I didn't have my ender specs on. I looked down at the ground, put them on, and looked back up, and all th...

A massive "YAY!" on my end. I didn't even realize how often I lurked on here until the forums were down. I found myself staring at my monitor, right on the edge of actually getting something done.

Re: Vine traps on the upper part of the block
Oh yeah, I do know one reason was so that it could be used as an aesthetic carpet block, which wouldn't be the case if it was placed on the upper-side. I suspect there was still more to it though <scratches head> I remember the original reason you gave shortly after it was released is that if a pla...

Re: For a moment there, I forgot that BTW is a mod
-snip about light blocks vs lamps- See, thing is, the Light Block (hereafter LB) is not opaque when unpowered, and as such can be used to let light through when not powered; The lamp is opaque when powered an unpowered, so it can't let light through. The LB can also transmit power through it if you...

Re: Loading slots before adding to stacks in hopper.
Actually, I've also noticed this with big piles of hoppers one over the other. I end up with hoppers "full" with a whole bunch of stacks of 7 in every slot. I'm using it as extra capacity for a builder as it makes big chunks of a wall I'm making. I'd never really had any issues as a result...

Re: Simple Bovine Processing Tower-thing
Well, in all honesty, the lens is only there because I wasn't really all there when I was building it, so I just took the easy method of sending the power up. If you made a torch tower that inverts the signal every block (slower transmission, and more delay) you may not even need the repeaters at al...

Simple Bovine Processing Tower-thing
I'd been tossing an idea for a simple animal farm in my head, and finally got around to making it. http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g439/Aljosh14/2012-05-18_164818.png It works like a Pez dispenser, just drop the cows one level every five minutes, and after 20 (or 25 in this case, I wanted to be ...

Re: An Important Announcement
Personally, I'm usually quite happy when I hear that any game (or, in this instance, mod update) has been delayed. A delay usually at least means the developers want this to be as advertised, if not actually making the game Better than Advertised. No matter the reason (and feel better), more develop...

Re: I need to learn to read better.
My doublechest of redstone I made when the synthesizing was first introduced ran pretty much dry (I'm setting up a second base), and I needed to synth some more. Given I only did it once, I forgot the exact recipe and checked the MCF for it. I was pretty tired, so I totally spaced that concentrated ...

Any guesses on where I slipped up this time?
Where there were once 16, there are three.

Though I avoid both, I'd pick Pepsi, since it's further away from battery acid than coke is.

Re: Usernames?
Mine comes from a premade D&D character from 3.5e whose (semi-suicidal) fighting style was absolutely perfect for my playstyle on a lot of games. I use the prefix "Lord" if plain Robilar is taken. I played a few too many medieval combat sims in a row and ended up with the name sticking.
