I was getting this the other day because something was up with Mojang even though everything was green. after like 30 minutes I was able to log in again.

The server is up. There was a time earlier where mojang was having authentication issues and no one could log on.

So it seems it's only a daytime thing. At night I was swarmed and attacked like normal. They don't even really attack during the day though, they mostly scream then run away. I guess this is normal behavior based on a comment above I just never remember ever receiving mercy from enderman in the past...

I will need to try it at night and see what happens. But most of the fights have been during the day and i get one or 2 hits before they run away for good.

On the SMP world I play on Enderman don't relentlessly attack. In fact I can't even kill one, at most I'll get 1 or 2 hits on them and then they will warp away never to be seen again. In my experience Ocelots are the same in BTW as in vanilla. Some jungle Biomes have tons and tons and sometimes you won't ever see one in a jungle.
