awesome early game experience (spoilers)

The early game in BTW has gotten much, much better since I last played around a couple of versions back. The last time I played through the early game was before hardcore hoofsies was added. So earlier tonight, I started up a new world. I have to say, I'm loving the new feel of everything. Here are ...

Re: Social Justice Warriors

From this and our other conversations recently, I suspect you may be prone to sweeping generalization and hyperbole in a fashion that would threaten to escalate our conversations into something this game is trying to parody :P Hyperbole is the only way to go. Anything worth doing is worth doing all...

Re: Social Justice Warriors

Hey, at the very least maybe it could be considered an educational piece to remind people that "if you're getting into crazy arguments online, good chance the other party is just having a good time fucking with you" :) I could see this working as satire if the message wasn't already an ap...

Re: Social Justice Warriors

I always wondered what the point to material like this game is. Why is it important to point out that two groups of idealists argue on the internet, and that their arguments usually have logical faults or grotesque amounts of pretentiousness? Why is it important to say, "Hey, guys, look at thes...

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

I think I've been far too Kerbalized to go back to "World War II fighter planes...in space!" anytime soon :) I'm in exactly the same space-boat. Back in... 2012, I think? I started wanting for star citizen hard. Then, elite dangerous started it's beta shenanigans and I wanted that harder....

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

Just glad I never bought Planetary Annihilation as I'm still embarrassed about having that one in my Steam library. Was gifted to me out of the blue by an old friend that I share a common love of TA and SC with, but after playing a couple of games against each other I think our mutual opinion was &...

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

I can definitely see that I haven't been particular wise with picking the good ones, but I'm not ranting because I've been burned. I'm doing so because I'm watching people just like me do the same thing, then come to the same conclusion. People are getting burned out on early access, man. This is an...

Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

I was just browsing my steam "queue", that thing Gabe Newell decided to make in order to remind us that he knows us better than we know ourselves. The games creativerse, robocraft, blockscape, ort online, edge of space, flix, grav, fortresscraft, and salt were among the titles shown to me....

Re: First Iron Tool: Pick or Hoe?

Pick for me, and with no hesitation. I always make a pick first, then strip mine a little for enough iron to make another pick and a hoe. I do this to start stockpiling stone for the nether, and before iron pick stockpiling stone is not an option. My base, logical reasoning for pick over hoe is that...

I love this game to death, but I too have a problem with the turrets. However, it's not just the turrets. We are colonists who were in cryo-sleep that fell to the planet from space, and we crash with a wwII era battle rifle, a colt handgun, and a knife. (But wait, it's a PLASTEEL knife! Stabby stabb...

Re: Medieval Engineers

I bought Space Engineers when it was just an asteroid and a creative inventory. I didn't know anything about the game, just that it looked like it was Minecraft, BUT IN SPACE, GUYS!!! I saw the bloom, the voxel building, the space, and bought it. I was stupid, though, because the game had no feature...

Re: Minecraft Augmented Reality

I've never worried about nanites because we can achieve everything we wanted nanites for with meta materials. By the way, if you're afraid of the hololens because the government may use it to control your perceptions, don't worry. The military is developing the invisibility cloak (light bending meta...

Re: Minecraft Augmented Reality

Put another way, technology is essentially power, and I think it all comes down to whether you think humanity would benefit most from more or less power at its disposal right now. Thus I guess it's largely a question of how much faith one has in humanity. True. My optimistic bias comes from the fac...

Re: Minecraft Augmented Reality

I've always believed two things about technology: our survival and quality of survival depend entirely on our application of knowledge (technology), and that, in a consumer economy, demand shapes the path of technological progress. We could build utopia with our knowledge. That is, of course, if peo...

Now I have to play BTW again.

I was just contemplating what it would take for one person on a wooded, deserted island to rebuild their own little piece of civilization. I got to the part where I was wondering what vegetation might be useful as cheap biofuel for an archaic combustion engine, and now I want to pay BTW again. I've ...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

The main reason I believe the $25 million hypothesis is because microsoft would have to launch Minecraft 2 and bundle it with the Xbone and sell over 4.1 million units at around $600 to get $2.5 billion back. I don't see that happening in 6 months. I am willing to eat my words if I'm wrong though. B...

Re: Hardcore Sinkholes: looking for feedback

Honestly, I don't think hardcore sinkholes went far enough. I always walked forward and never looked back, and never actually fell down a sinkhole once. The sand in the desert would just fall behind me. And also, who is dumb enough to walk on gravel in the nether anyway? :P

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/19/microsoft-buying-minecraft-explanation/ The key thing to take away here is that microsoft expects to make $25 million by June 30, 2015. Not that difficult. I suspect Notch was looking to get out and just called up the guys that handled the xbox 360 port of minecraf...

Re: my luck with vital tech bottlenecks

After looking through about 20 village locations, I managed to find 3 or 4 good ones. One is actually not *too* far from my closest nether portal. With some smart nether tunneling, I may be able to connect it to my burgeoning nether network. But yeah, my current world, the one I have never cheated o...

Re: my luck with vital tech bottlenecks

I just confirmed via creative mode and AMIDST that villages *can* spawn in my world. HOWEVER, the majority of villages locations in my map are in rivers or coastlines, therefore they can't spawn. I've only found one place on my map where the village can spawn.

Re: my luck with vital tech bottlenecks

Okay, I hate myself for it, but I cheated and used a mapping tool to locate the villages. None of my villages I've tried to find are actually in my world. I'm using AMIDST, and it shows me where temples and all that are. I looked in a plains biome and a desert biome. The three villages I walked to a...

At this point I'll be happy with the wheat so I can get a reliable source of leather for glue and armor. I've nearly destroyed two diamond picks on my latest nether tunneling spree, and one had unbreaking 1 on it.

my luck with vital tech bottlenecks

As you may recall, I posted a while back that I had trouble finding a nether fortress so I could get a crucible. Well,a while back I found one with soulsand piles and got my blaze rods. However, I have no nether wart in my fortress. No potions for me yet. I have a new problem. I can't find villages....

Could you elaborate on this? How do you "box the whole HCS area" and how long does that take?
