I think the implication of these "dragon vessels" is pretty clear . . . these temples were used for human sacrifice to the ender dragon. Maybe when a soul (in the from of xp) passes through the dragon vessel it is enslaved by the ender dragon, becoming an ender man.

I haven't killed enough possessed animals to know for sure (about five) but every time I have (and a host animal was in range) the soul changed host.

A few releases ago FC decreased the hemp grow rate. That combined with a little bad luck is probably the reason.

Possible solutions:

1. plant more hemp . . . durrrr

2. use light blocks to speed up the growth rate.
