The problem with hardcore mode is that you're missing out on hardcore spawn and living in an ever growing world where you have the chance of discovering one of your old bases in your travels.

Aren't most of the hardcore additions negated by peaceful difficulty (can't starve to death and no mobs to kill you)?

So I had a feeding timer that relied on a bunch of glass blocks and one solid block being pushed in a circle until the solid block "triggered" a redstone torch sitting ontop of the blocks. The blocks would move but the torch would stay in the same position. Here's a picture to help explain...
