Re: Flower's Dev Diary (March 31st) - Cold hard truth editio

I have to agree with others before me. If this is cold, hard truth then I can't wait to see what you consider good news. :) As a modder you owe it to yourself to get out and cut your losses if a project is no longer fun and is just draining your creativity, and I'm glad to see you do it. Good luck w...

Re: Grasping at every straw. (Dog health issues)

Well, this is a complete shot in the dark, but my sisters dog has an allergy against chicken and some of the symptoms are similar. I know that some symptoms of allergies and autoimmune problems can be similar to symptoms of diabetes, at least in humans, so maybe it's not too far fetched? Might be wo...

Re: Do you work in Computer Science? Wanna help me?

I'd have no problem with doing something like this, though it does depend on scheduling of course. I work as a consultant and have 5 years of dev experience as well as a bachelor degree in CS from the University of Oslo, so I guess I fit the "Computer Science"-field description somewhat......

Re: Mining Methods

I saw a decent mathematical analysis of this once, and have ever since been doing branch mining with 5 blocks between shafts. The way I see it, it's not really about getting all the ore, but about the least stone mined per ore. And increasing the distance between branches actually reduces the amount...

Re: BTW V4.72T: Hardcore Stratification test release

I did some quick testing along the seams, and couldn't find any changes or seams above ground. It also doesn't look too jarring in caves. And must agree with others here that the new look of deep caves is amazing.

Re: BTW V4.72T: Hardcore Stratification test release

Man, this looks amazing! :) Loving the look of it. Though emeralds and silverfish (as mentioned by AddyBaha) still use the light smoothstone texture, making them stand out something awful in the depths. The slowdown of chunk generation did hit my laptop a little bit, but not extremely so. Felt compl...

Re: 4.70 Gameplay Balance Discussion Thread (READ RULES OR B

I spent some time in a new world with 4.70, and both HC Bouncing and the stone tool rebalance feel perfect. Having to consider cobble as a resource and think about what to use it for feels just right. As for the bouncing, the only place I noticed it, really, was when branch mining. I usually fill in...

Re: 4.69 Gameplay Balance Discussion Thread

I have to agree with others that have posted before about diamonds feeling almost "cheaty" now. I used an iron pickaxe to get my first few diamonds, and from then on the only time I use iron tools is when I need redstone for a compass after some accident throws me into the wild unknown. I ...

Re: 4.68T Optimization Test

There is definitely an increase of about 20-30% on this system, a ThinkPad W510. I'm still getting my main problem, which is a hellish drop to about 7 fps with serious hangups right after sunrise and sunset. But the drop and stuttering that used to happen if I moved too far too fast is all but gone ...

Re: Missing all vinella textures

Sounds like the archiving application you used to copy the mod files into your .jar didn't merge subfolders properly. It's been known to happen to mac users, at least. You'll need to redownload the minecraft.jar (by deleting the /bin folder and running the game, for instance) and then either copy th...

<a minecart-load of truth about code> As a professional developer myself, I have to chime in my support here. The most important thing is getting the job done. The point is: one day they come for X, the second they come for Y, and a month after no one is safe. Some kinds of behaviour need to be rooted out before they mature. The crux of the matter, in a single point. This is not about copyright or ego or who you like or dislike. This is about the future o...

I just want to second (or third, or n-th) the sentiment that you've shown, time and again, that you know what you're doing, FC. So whatever solution you go for, I'll be there.
