Re: Question about creating a mod.

I haven't looked at the minecraft code base in a couple versions, and never the audio sections, but I had a thought. There are lots of games, FPS especially, where there is an option to enable chat-logging of sounds played. For example, in Valve's Portal 2, you can get messages like " [turret] ...

Re: Raspberry Pi Adventures

Let us know how the lego case goes :) ...you mean, for the peripheral(s)? Or the Pi itself (which already has a case built, in my first image) ? If you mean for the other stuff, I don't know if those even need a case. Maybe a rack of some kind for the breadboard, but that would be about all I'd nee...

Re: Raspberry Pi Adventures

Wow, thanks for the compliments on the case. It's just something I cobbled together from pieces I dug up around the house, mostly. Lots of custom features, though. The silvery section on the top right is easily removed and lies directly over the GPIO, the white axle on top is there because I need a ...

Raspberry Pi Adventures

Hi everyone. I know there was a thread a while back about the Raspberry Pi, a $35 computer the size of a wallet, but since that thread's been dead for a while I decided it might be better to just make a new thread entirely. Anyone else have one of these things? They're a lot of fun. Share your stori...

Re: HCH is brilliant

First near-death experiences with HCH tonight. I was caving because I've hit a brick wall in the tech tree, obsidian. My undergound is woefully stony... Anyway, I came across an abandoned mineshaft while exploring a cave system and immediately was on guard. I'd heard the tales on this forum of the h...

Re: Minecraft Realms

In the future we aim to offer certain profiles with mods that are certified to work without crashing, but this will still be a safe and easy way for kids and families to play Minecraft online. (End of the 4th paragraph in the article) I'm actually a bit worried about this. If Mojang starts offering...

^ This. Excellent idea, Uristqwerty. While I'm not too keen on the mob *destroying* torches etc, I'm loving the rest of the idea. Pretty much exactly what I was thinking, but you explained it better.

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

It really angers me. If this is any interpretation of where minecraft is heading, i'm completley just devastated. It started off as an awesome game, but seriously now it's all about fucking around and doing stupid shit. like Garrys mod for example. Complete agreement here, though I would like to po...

I know it was over a year ago! xD I, too, read through part of the MCF thread. I think I eventually got up past t...

Re: The potential of lighting

You don't need to give the player some way to change spawning distance... just make the shadows / soot things spawn in darkness like all other monsters. Then, players who are careful to light all corners of their base can keep it safe no matter how large it is, but lax players will find they have to...

Re: The potential of lighting

*disclaimer* it's been a while since I looked at MC code, any following statements are based on memory or in-game end-user experiences. giving Mobs the ability to seek out and destroy torches would make for a similar gameplay mechanic with an "invasion" twist Hmm, zombies smacking torches ...

Re: The potential of lighting

What if we looked at this the other way around? What if, instead of making light sources weaker, one introduced *dark* sources? As in, a mob or something else that lowers light levels around it in the same way that torches raise light levels? Imagine a creature that, instead of attacking you directl...

Re: Armillary Sphere Space Travel

This sounds really cool, but when I think of armillary sphere-based travel or weaponry or anything, I tend to imagine them being quite large, to the point where the innermost ring is wider than a person is tall (think "Thor" or a certain scene from TESV Skyrim). Going that route would be m...

Re: MC in game journal (book and quill)

I have a journal like this in my current world. I decided before I was thinking about a character from another game, and thought "hey, how would they react to suddenly waking up in the world of Minecraft?". I have a general idea of what I want to happen, but I let the in-game events dictat...

Re: The BTW vs RP conflict: an historical approach

Not sure if this should be added to the list, but I thought this would be the appropriate place to mention this. In a recent release, we were given the ability to set fire to any side of a hellfire block. IIRC, there was some discussion of this back when Eloraam did the same thing as part of her Ign...

I agree in that "oh, he was isolated and didn't know FC wanted it shut down" is really suspicious... I for one can't stay off the forums more than a day at best xD Still, as FC said, no ill will towards the guy. Can't fault the ground troops for the general's orders. Also, I had to laugh w...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation

No, one missing rail is enough to stop the cart. However, the crash bug when riding a minecart through a portal has been fixed, and minecarts can be teleported through like any other entity (unless FC changed that, haven't tested). Only problem is that you can't be teleported while actually in the c...

Re: The state of Strategy games

I was introduced to the RTS genre by Age of Empires, and have loved the genre ever since. It's sad to see what AoE's become, and it seems the same has happened to other series as well. I haven't lost all hope yet, though. Planetary Annihilation will be epic if they can live up to what they've promis...

Re: Home - First Glimpses

Well isn't Minecraft as it is now a simplified version of DF with only one Dwarf? I suppose it is, if you leave out all the Fun parts of DF. Maybe that's what Home will be like! The Minecraft Overworld, but with added Fun! Hmm, now that I think about it, wasn't there a discussion on these forums a ...
