Clean install of 4.8999999 server -> does not start

Looks like a file or something got missed in the latest (couple?) of versions of the server code, but was in one of the old ones. Possibly this hasn't affected anyone else yet if it was included in a previous release and people are merely updating their old *.jar files? From a clean 1.5.2 Minecraft ...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.70)

Hah, knew there must be a new version coming when the other thread got un-stickied. Thanks!

Also, hardcore bouncing? I think this is going to be another change that I'm going to hate but love anyway. Cheers.

Re: Historical mechanical power transmission - Stangenkunst

Oh, and just for clarity, I am emphatically NOT making this a suggestion. It would be (as mentioned) very difficult to integrate into the mod, and I can't see how it would ever be a drop-in replacement for gear boxes at all. This is merely for interest.

Historical mechanical power transmission - Stangenkunst

I just came across this site , and I found it fascinating so I thought I'd share (found via ). I'd stick this post in off-topic but for the context of how BTW handles mechanical power transmission and the similarities/differences of approach. Interesting to see how this problem was actually handled ...

Re: Whatever the Wither?

Hmm, i don't have an answer for the first part, but I have a bit of a narative for soul sand at the least. I see it as being the compounded chitonous remnant from an eon's worth of souls, their principle body having finally decayed and left only a compound built essentially out of their empty husks....

Re: Fully automatic melon-pushing tree farm (possible exploi

Just when you think you've seen it all...someone comes up with a better tree farm. Brilliant! Thanks! Although if I were to redesign it I think I'd do things a little differently -- I liked using the lens/detector combo to detect growth, as the buddy is really just finicky. And prone to breaking wh...

Re: Fully automatic melon-pushing tree farm (possible exploi

I'll just leave this here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNYCo5WoqiE&feature=youtu.be Oh, ya I'm familiar with that design too -- that one does the 'vertical pusher' part at the beginning. I'd been thinking of constructing one myself, but I hadn't seen anyone using melons this way so I figured...

Fully automatic melon-pushing tree farm (possible exploit?)

Muah ha ha ha... it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!!! Ahem. Ok, what I meant to say was -- thanks to hardcore melons, I am now pleased to announce the completion of the automatic melon/birch farm. As noted in the title I'm not sure if this behaviour is an intended consequence of hardcore melons. Because melons...

Re: What is BWF?

I don't think that it's Lex's *ego* that's the motivation here, to be honest. 1) Mojang has previously hired prominent modders from the community (see Dinnerbone/Bukkit). 2) Mojang pays extremely well (see last year's Christmas bonuses to staff) and has a respected place in the game dev. industry (s...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of November 12th)

Bearing in mind that I have absolutely no experience with anarchy play, I can think of at least one use for Pyramids beacons: bait. Build one, light it, and wait. When someone comes, drink an invisibility potion and follow them back to their base. Either pop out and kill them or wait for them to lea...

BD picking up immature wheat

As per the title, block dispensers seem to be picking up immature wheat. Immature hemp is fine however. Please ignore this if this is intended behaviour; I could find no mention of the change between ~july and now in any of the release threads, and it was working then (i.e. only mature wheat was pic...

Re: Sharing useful builds that get the job done

Just thought I'd put my urn Maker&Baker out there. I tried to get it as compact as possible; the mechanism itself is only 4x4x3. Tack on some extra for stoked hibachis and the redstone timing of course. The redstone is simply a 16.8-second clock -- a 6-cycle with a div-14 via a BD gives us nearl...

Re: Oh sweet Anarchy, I miss you ...

Well, that or hold onto the videos and only release them after a certain time period's up, and/or after their base gets raided/destroyed? Once the base is gone and s/he has to re-establish somewhere else anyways, they have nothing to lose by making it all public.

Re: Jeet Plays Better Than Wolves - Episode 3

... this is true.

That said, for me it really depends on how close water is to your lava to determine which method to use -- some lost obsidian is some lost mining time, but a huge aqueduct can be a lot *more* time. :-)

Re: Carrots and Poatoes

since your own regeneration stops after 1 hunger pip they can be quite handy in that sense if you can't justify eating a pork chop. Slightly off-topic, but I just thought I'd mention -- you know if you only have one 'hunger pip' missing, and then you eat a steak? The extra hunger pips from the stea...

Re: Jeet Plays Better Than Wolves - Episode 3

Hey Jeet, I just watched your episode 2, good stuff! ... and I kinda hate to point this out, but you know how you dug a mile-long aqueduct to get water to meet lava for your obsidian? You know that even with hard-core buckets, buckets still work well enough to turn lava into obsidian, right? As in y...

-Changed the name of the vanilla Anvil, removed all GUI functionality, removed the damage it takes from falling, changed its bounding box to better reflect its shape, added the ability to rotate it on the Turntable, and changed the recipe for it to only require 7 iron ingots (no blocks). lol. Re: simple auto hemp farm controller good for low end PC's

I'm personally considering using a simple redstone timer as my only means of control -- sure there's a bit of a productivity hit, but then I can just plant more hemp :). Plus, this will let me build a 100% automated hemp farm and associated chickens/feathers/wolves/dung all with sub-hibachi-tech. Gi...

Crap crap crap -- who told him?

To be fair FC, can I reiterate my point about the added complexity (requiring at least flow rate estimation) warranting the added functionality?

Re: The block dispenser filler uses?

It lowers the cost of an 'arbitrary filter' from ludicrous to merely high. If you fill a BD up with 15 bricks and the hopper above it with 17 bricks, and fill the remaining two slots with a stack and a half of whatever you want to filter out, you can now separate anything from anything (provided tha...

Re: Sharing useful builds that get the job done

Given the growth rate of grass, and the drop rate of seeds from grass, you'd need more than two of three rows of planter to keep up the production of seeds, more like 5 or 10. But that's an interesting idea :) Hmm, thanks -- I'm going to see where this leads. 5-10 seems about right after some exper...

Re: Sharing useful builds that get the job done

A Super Trivial Completely Automatic Wheat Farm http://i.imgur.com/c6uHy.png The only catch is that you need a lot of bricks... Grass planter has a chance of creating tall grass. When it does, the light beam is broken and the pistons collect whatever it was on the hoppers. Each hopper will only pass...

Re: Make BD's *use* bonemeal to spawn tall grass?

Hmm, never knew. Thanks.

And I think I just made a *really* *simple* auto-wheat farm then. Lens triggering pistons along a row of grass planters, push the results into a row of hoppers w/ wicker and voila :-).
