Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Chicken feed is for breeding them, they can also be fed with grass or seeds. It is possible to keep them fed without grass just using seeds but that is only feasible with automated setups later game. Realistically for the first while, you need grass to keep them fed reliably unless you manually wan...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Alright, so we've had some very profitable forays into a dungeon that was intersected by a mine - we have a surplus of iron, enough diamonds to mine obsidian, several regular torches, melon seeds...and are working toward our windmill. Now, because of the melon seeds and the torches, we're considerin...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Welp, my humble abode went up in flames due to a misplaced block of wood. I lost most of my items. Unfortunately, I don't think I can muster the energy to keep playing... ...on that world, at least - I've also been playing on a multiplayer world with a friend (she's dubbed BTW "caveman simulato...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Aaand I was just reminded why I shouldn't make a nether portal in the middle of an open field. My house nearly went up in flames, and I'm pretty sure there are still some ghasts flying in the distance. On the topic of ghasts...any tips for traversing the nether safely (other than tunnelling through ...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
A flint and steel won't light any blocks on fire anymore I think you can spread fire to the portal frame in other ways, but for the most direct, place a campfire inside Well, that explains it, haha. But, wait, how do you light a fire under a cauldron, now? Do you have to maintain a campfire lit und...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Since this has turned into a general questions thread...I've burned through 5+ flint and steels trying to light a nether portal; am I doing something wrong? Did anything change?

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Changing the subject a bit: is there any way you can keep livestock (I'm looking at cows and sheep) pre-nethercoal? I can't see how I'd ensure they'd survive the night if I can't prevent zombies from spawning and eating them.

Re: The changes to torches have discouraged me from building in the early game
Thank you for the input, folks. I disagree that the relationship between survival and building is dichotomous or oppositional - survival can encourage construction/the creative aspects of the game, and BTW itself has often demonstrated that (just look at all the amazing stuff the community has been ...

The changes to torches have discouraged me from building in the early game
Now, before anything else, I have to say I'm enjoying the impact that crude torches have had on the early game when it comes to spelunking and survival in general. This makes me a bit torn regarding this issue. The thing is, the lack of a way of permanently mob-proof buildings before saw tech/bravin...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Please science/ wait for confirmation, but torches ignite the block above them and all blocks adjacent to that. Besides the head-level block I've left out so I can see/stand, the blocks left air will burn if flammable https://i.imgur.com/SJAFEbm.png and ovens ignite the block in front of them and a...

Re: [Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
(...) Just try not to burn your house and all your storage down =p (...) Hehe, yeah, this scares me. Any precautions that should be taken? From what I've noticed so far, it seems crude torches aren't really safe, but I don't know for what radius. And lightning is *very* meant to wood. While we're a...

Re: Spelunking in the early game
Thanks for the input, folks. It's already been helpful. A different question: how do you go about building before having permanent light sources? I've been wanting to start building a small house (I tire of living in dirt holes), but the possibility of mobs spawning inside when I'm not nearby is ver...

[Early game spoilers] Spelunking in the early game
Hello, folks. It's been a long time since I've posted here or played BTW. Long story short, I'm back at it =) Anyway, I've been having some difficulty with spelunking/mining for iron in the very early game, so some advice would be appreciated. My biggest issue is with the new (for me) crude torches ...

right-clicking daylight sensors to make them night-time sensors Errrrr...because using redstone torches to invert a signal is now considered too difficult for most players? :) Yup.. It's seems that Mojang is too scared that your mentally retarded 2-year-old mind will get distracted Minecraft presen...

Re: Scrolls' situation
Recently watched an episode of EC that covered Early access games. I think it explains the problem you're looking for. http://youtu.be/CmLz00L6CmY This is spot on. What's interesting (disappointing, to be more precise) is that, while word-of-mouth hasn't helped Scrolls that much, Mojang has the res...

Re: Scrolls' situation
I think the game didn't have a decent enough influx of new players past its early access release, which had somewhat limited content (not many scrolls besides the starter decks). They've released a whole bunch of scrolls since then (at least 3 sets, IIRC), but the majority of the game's playerbase w...

Re: Scrolls' situation
When i was begging to flirt about going back to scrolls i got introduced by a friend to Hearthstone and boy do i love Hearthstone! Oh, yes, Hearthstone is a blast. A bit too grindy for my taste, but, still, I've had tons of fun with it. I've been playing Scrolls for the last couple of days -against...

Re: Scrolls' situation
Between the main playerbase being very much veterans, the lack of any low-level players and the sheer lengths of games...It's just not fun anymore. Or at least it wasn't a couple of months back. It might be different for people overflowing with gold with full sets of cards I guess, but knowing that...

Scrolls' situation
Has anyone played it recently? I dropped it a few months ago (after struggling for another few months, playing without much enjoyment) and downloaded it yesterday. It still doesn't feel as fun as when it "launched". Servers are comatose. Trading has been resumed to bots - which, not so sur...

Re: Using an YouTube username
I tried creating a second channel on my account but it kept insisting I use my Google+ account. I never use it so I just changed my actual name to my handle. I tried doing that, but the g+ profile requires you to use a "standard" name format (name_surname), which wasn't really ideal to me...

Re: Using an YouTube username
AFAICT, this is what you do (might need to be logged in to a google account): https://www.youtube.com/create_channel Click the "To use a business or other name, click here" link. Then you can name it whatever you want. Once it's created, you'll just have to make sure you have that new cha...

Using a YouTube username
I figured this would be a good place to ask, since we have a few YouTubers in the community. I've been trying for some time to set up an YouTube user/channel name, since I'd like to comment on videos without using my real name. Unfortunately, Google made that bloody darn hard. From what I've seen, I...

This Is Phil Fish
The video isn't actually about Phil per se. I've found it worth sharing, considering the themes discussed reflect a good amount of the BTW and FC's own history of dealing with the public during its development. And, quite frankly, I think those themes are something that people should pay more attent...

Re: Help with a new computer.
While I can't offer much advice myself (I am actually looking into building a machine from scratch), the guys at Polygon put up fairly recently a PC buying guide. You'd probably find some useful info on it.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokémon
I think they'll eventually be able to get through. The game misses a lot of the commands due to the massive flood, so perhaps they'll manage to get a nice stream of "good" inputs and suppress the occasional "down" for long enough to get past this route. People pointed out on the ...
