Re: Sci fi and love
I guess an argument could be made that it's to simplify things for the mass market, but it feels more like ignorance of the subject matter on the part of the writers to me. Anyways, I guess it just bothers me because it is very close to being hard scifi but just misses the mark slightly in the deta...

Re: Sci fi and love
Edit: I gave it another go and I think I found the show, apparently it's called "Space: Above and Beyond". The name doesn't even ring a bell. I guess I have to watch it now? :) It only had a single season and kind of left things hanging. I own it on DVD and generally enjoyed it, so I'd sa...
Re: Ark
How easy is it to play with 1 and only 1 other guy? Do I need to set up a dedicated server or is there a way to play P2P? There is a mode where you can host the game as you're playing it, allowing (I think) four people to join you. From what I have read, you need a reasonably solid computer to be t...
Re: Ark
The sense of scale is such an important part of this game IMO, that I'd do everything I could to try and make it look good for the very largest of creatures. There's a huge "oh wow" that comes with first seeing a brontosaurus in this game, that rapidly dissipates into an "ewww...that...
Re: Ark
There was also the 1974 television show "Land of the Lost" , though I watched a lot of it in reruns. Dinosaurs, Sleestak (lizard-men), and cave men. I won't claim it was good television, unless you're a kid. But I'm sure it had to do with part of my love of dinosaurs growing up. They remad...
Re: Ark
I'm waiting a while before playing again, but yeah, I think this game is going to be worth it. I'm just waiting for mod support to pick up a little, as there a bunch of minor inconveniences I'd love to get out of the way, mostly the fact that you can't unlock all recipes in single player (unless th...

Re: Steam Sales
Infinifactory is 33% off, for those who haven't picked it up yet based on the recommendations on this board.
Re: Ark
I hadn't realized that earned level and learned recipes are persistent through death. I still really like the decision to prevent one player from being able to learn all recipes but I've lost a lot of enthusiasm for it. I'll still pick it up but it has dropped way down the list priority-wise. There...

Re: Steam Sales
FarSky is currently on sale for $3. I agree with FlowerChild here when he says it's maybe six hours of play, but it's certainly worth $3 just for the experience.

"Unemployment Benefits"? So, that's the book we need in order to start receiving the supply crate drops? ;)FlowerChild wrote:"Intro To Pottery, Candle Making, Glass Working, and Unemployment Benefits" actually ;)

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
No worries. My apologies for spoiling a feature that was probably more fun the way you thought it worked, than the way it really does ;) While I admit the whole zombie corpses equal more zombies was an interesting logistics aspect, knowing that I was wrong will save me a ton of time. I was very dil...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
Zombie gore blocks don't contribute to heat, as zombies aren't attracted to zombie corpses. Only animal gore blocks do. I apologize for the bad information. I appear to have mixed a suggestion discussion with the actual facts in my head. This will certainly save some wear and tear on my fire axe.

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
I must have missed the changes to dead zombies that cause the terrain to rise. It is a really neat idea to challenge the players builds vs hordes. It looks kind of odd though. These are called gore blocks. If you're fighting around your base, it's useful to clear them away. While zombies cannot yet...

Re: Humble Store Daily Sales
It's been talked about on this forum, though I haven't played it: Salt (Early Access) is on sale in this Humble Store sale for 1/3 off at $9.89. Lists as coming with a Steam key.
The Steam page has a demo.

Humble Store Daily Sales
The Humble Store is running one of those "daily sales" promotions. Not as big as Steam, for which my wallet and willpower are thankful. I know Prison Architect has been talked about a number of times on this forum. I is currently on sale for 80% off at $5.99 till Monday . It's marked as ha...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
11.3 *seems* to have fixed it. I only had time for some limited tests but I could not reproduce it over several save/load cycles. I just completed my first test world and could not get the bug to show either. I'll be loading up the game again after dinner. Hopefully the swatted it. I am glad my cyn...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
I'm both amazed and depressed that players really don't seem to give a shit about it. Depressed, because I suspect that will lower its fix priority substantially, amazed because it really causes havoc with save games as you can see from the screenshots I posted. I strongly agree that the lack of at...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
However, they also gave the arrows a 0.15 second grace time where they aren't affected by gravity, meaning they can travel around 8 meters or so without any drop, which results in them still being perfectly precise at short range. Got rid of that part of course :) Maybe the arrows are supposed to b...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
I have the sinking feeling that they're balancing building density for "realism" rather than gameplay, and absolutely want to have these small towns here and there which I don't think suit the game well at all. Some "7 Days to Die" forum reading has left me believing that the cu...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
"Minibike" specifically refers to things like: That is not a motorcycle of any sort. That is not even a bike. That's a child's toy some idiot parent decided would be fun to ride before they broke it and made their child cry. Heck, Barbie has a better vehicle than that in those lawnmower s...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled
I figure I'll judge the game changes once they are actually released. I've gotten cynical about the differences between what early access or beta or whatever developers say a thing will be and what it actually is when released. :) What I am really looking forward to is performance improvements. I ha...

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam
For me, the concept of Early Access on Steam is a good one. Then again, I already knew that a significant number of the video game projects which are started never get finished, whether through failure of those producing it or because the financing gets pulled by higher ups or investors. I sincerely...
